Youll need to provide more information for anyone to be able to give you a decent answer.
A P05 is a OBD1 ecu that comes from a CX = D15B8 non-vtec, 1-wire O2 sensor.
You say your "friend" was using it on a mini-me, what block/head was he using? Also, did it run properly or was it limping along half-assed? If it ran correctly, your best bet would be to ask your "friend" for answers.
A D16Y7 uses a 4-wire O2 sensor, a P05 ecu reads a 1-wire O2 sensor. On this basis alone, Id say you are better off getting a P06 ecu (since you want to go OBD1) and getting it chipped, or if you also plan to do a mini-me just get a P28 chipped.
P06's can be found pretty cheap, for a working P28 plan to spend anywhere from $75-200 depending on how lucky you are/where you look.
