Default Mid-Project elimination of VTEC?

So first things first, I'm going to plop a D16Y8 head on my D16A6 block.

I'll put together a wiring harness later, when I get around to it. I was just going to run the stock wiring and OBD0 Non-VTEC ECU to move the car around for the time being.

I'll retard the shit outta the timing to comp for the bump up in compression and just drive gently.

Will it hurt anything by not operating the VTEC solenoid? Like will it get stuck in one position or gummed up or something?

Life gets in the way sometimes and it may take me a while to build a good wiring harness. But I've got a lack of compression on cylinder #3 NOW.

No it won't get stuck in one position and it will only get gummed up if you don't change your oil enough.

Do you know the cause of the compression loss for #3?

Not yet.

I know the engine needed rings when I got it. I find it hard to believe the rings let go catastrophically.

The engine is not pressurizing the cooling system when it's cold, so I'm reluctant to say head gasket.

What head gasket did you use and which head bolts?

No need to change the timing, run stock and it'll be fine. Had no VTEC working on mine for 20-30k miles....just don't lug the motor below 1800 rpm on 87 octane. On 89 it was fine. ZC trans made it happy.
