Default Strange Oil Pressure Issues

Hey all,

First post, but this forum has always come in handy. I just cant find what I need.

Heres the deal, hopefully someone may be able to help!

500 miles on this build
D16Z6 Heads, comp 59300 cam , valves, springs, retainers.
D16y8 Block, Vitara build, stock crank, ACL bearings, new oil pump
I can provide more information on request. The engine was assembled by my machinist.

When I start the car, right up to 80+PSI...as it warms up the oil pressure naturally drops. but here is where the weird stuff happens.

The oil pressure will not increase with RPM, it just drops with temp as time goes on until its under 40 PSI at any RPM level.

I've already tried switching to a smaller genuine Mugen oil filter and switching from 5w30 to 10w40 which made a slight change but again falls flat when at operating temperature.

I do not think my gauge is bad because on start up the oil pressure will in fact increase with throttle response. Im inclined to believe its not a leak or the 80psi start up likely wouldn't hold up.

I've had code 22 in the past, now the car wont hit beyond 6500 (which im not testing frequently due to the low pressure) I tuned the car myself on Crome, so I could answer more technical questions there too.

Any help would be highly appreciated, its a bit frustrating.

Let me also add that of course this engine is turbocharged, right now with just a smaller 15g greddy set up.

I also do have a few oil pan dents that could be considered somewhat substantial, I dont mind replacing the pan as it may be dented near the take up but I'd like to rule out all smaller issues first.

Is it a mechanical or electrical gauge?

And the gauge isn't stuck? It returns to 0 when you turn the car off?

My autometer mechanical would stick around 40 psi when I had it overightened in the gauge holder thing

Sounds like the bearings are done.

I saw a similar issue when I was running a huge feed line to my turbo with no restrictor. I ended up spinning a rod bearing. Rebuilt the motor this time with a restrictor and that brought my oil pressure and the response back up.

Also, I always measure clearances when building an engine, and then use the Honda OEM bearings to set my clearances exactly. Also, I write all the measurements and clearances down in a notebook. Ask your machinist for your engine measurements if he has them. Post them if you can get them.

You mention ACL bearings, race or STD? I've never used them, because in my personal opinion, just throwing the same size bearings on every journal is asking for them to be too tight or too loose, although sometimes it's the only option. Example, if you have big journals and small crank, you should run thicker bearings. Throw in a set of ACL race bearings, which are thinner than the standards (assuming even standards would clearance OK) and you have big ass clearances well out of what you want. Which can result in low oil pressure.

I agree with everyone here. You may need an oil restrictor
And make sure your machinist installed everything correctly. If the bearings are way too loose because they are one size this may also be your issue.
