Default newly rebuilt motor low compression on cyl #2

Gents,

Any ideas to why I would be only getting 80 PSI on cylinder #2. The block was full rebuilt. New bearings, decked, bored, honed, new oversized pistons, hasting rings. The cylinder head was resurfaced, 3 angle valve job, a few valves got replaced and guides.

Here is my compression numbers.
#1 = 160
#2 = 80 psi
#3 = 160
#4 = 160

Yeah first step is leakdown. Take the valve cover off and boop the valves when you're doing the leakdown, they might just have some crud on the seats.

sounds like some rings werent clocked right or one of them snapped in the install. like said above do a leak down test, this will tell you were your leaking from

If I were a betting man, I'd suspect a valve related problem.

As said above, leakdown is your first step.

I ASSume this engine has been run through at least one heat cycle at this point?

the car hasn't even left the jack stands. it has ran for at least 25 minuets at idle to make sure everything is running right. Then misfire on #2. I suspect something to do with the valves. Possible valve lash is all out of wack which is possible, or a flat spot on the cam lobe.

leak down test soon to come when i get time.

If a new valve sank a few thousandth's it could toss off the PSI numbers. Not clocking the rings won't effect cranking PSI as long as they don't break.

Flat spot on the cam lobe would have the better cranking psi numbers, check the lash again.
