Default Need help! Won't start.. d16y7 head, d15b block

I made another thread about this, but I'm going to lay everything out here and hopefully someone can help me. I've been trying to get this right for the last 48hrs straight with no luck. PLEASE HELP!

I have been looking around on here and have gotten mixed answers from all over. If you have any experience with this, PLEASE help!

So I have a d15b block with a blown head, so I proceeded to swap the head out for an OBDII d16y7 head I had laying around. I swapped out the dizzy and walla! 190 compression in all calenders! This got me pretty happy, but then she wouldnt crank over.

What I've tried so far:
- I've used a straw to get #1 cyl to TDC and put the UP mark on the cam gear up. Made sure nothing was being hit and tried to start it. Nothing but a bunch of back fires and hickups.

- From there I proceeded to move the timing belt 1 tooth over at the cam in either direction to either retard or advance it in either direction. I did this over a 3 tooth span in either direction with no luck what so ever.

- I re-did everything again trying to get the #1 cyl to TDC and putting the cam gear in the UP position. Still no luck.

There were a few times where I go the engine to just keep cranking with no back fires or hickups, but deffinetly didn't want to start.

- I then tried swapping out the d16y7 cam gear with the d15b cam gear and it looked to be about 1/2 a tooth difference. I did everything all over again numerous times with the exact same results.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? I'm deffinetly getting fuel (smells ALOT), getting spark, and also have great compression (checked it twice)... PLEASE HELP!

Well I finally go it to start! I started to look over every single avenue I could as to why it wasn't starting. I figured it was getting spark, but maybe it just wasn't strong enough. So I thought I would get some sand paper and sand the rotor down a little to see if that would help any. Right when i take the cap off, I see a screw sitting there and the rotor without a screw... Turns out, the rotor was just spinning and causing a spark at any random time causing the back fires/hick ups.

It still wouldn't start after I put the screw back into the rotor, but it sounded really close. So I moved the cam over a tooth and BAM! Started right up. It seems to be running really smooth, but I'll have to put the timing light up to it tomorrow.

For future reference: I have a jdm d15b block with a d16y7 head and I used the z6 timing belt, and y7 head gasket. I also used the d15b cam gear.

Thanks for the help everyone!
