Default DOHC ZC new valvetrain opinions

I'm going to freshen up my DOHC ZC head, which is a well used OEM head with OEM valvetrain. I wanted to get all new valves so I can start fresh, but oem are discontinued and can't find any good stock replacement ones. My option is to get supertech valves which would be about $230 for a set which isn't too bad. Does anyone know of some good stock (oem type) replacement valves or should I just get the supertech valves?

Also I wanted to get some new valve springs. Again Honda oem is discontinued. When I tested some used valve springs recently I was surprised in the seat pressure differences, so I wanted to start all fresh. I don't need dual valve springs with titanium retainers. I wanted to use my new oem retainers with some aftermarket single valve springs. I saw supertech sells single valve springs for about $120 a set. Do these work with stock retainers and seats? They seem like a good price for something simple.

Ok

Do your valves spec like these?

https://www.d-series.org/forums/membe...cture19898.jpg

If they do, I know a valve and spring combo.

Supertechs springs for he sohc dseries work with oem retainers. Im under the impression they all will unless its a highend custom spring but the common one hundred to two hundred dollar springs shoukd work, they wouldsstate in the description if they didnt. Or would say must be used with our retainers and give a part number.

I would call BC (Brian Crower) and see if they can make them or if they already do but I just don't see a listing for them. OEM retainers should be fine and last longer than the Ti ones as long as the springs say they will work with OEM ones.

Rocket has springs also.

Bogus helped me find a cheaper alternative.

It's not completely proven yet or direct bolt on. As soon as I get some work done I'm going to post the results.

Flat_ Thats what I would like to know is how the springs installed.

The valves should be no issue.

Beer, I know the guys up at BC, and am direct with them, I have spoke with them more than a few times about specs for products and tested a few.

The DOHC ZC and D16A1 use the same valvetrain. If those specs were for the D16A1 then that is the specs.

I can still get OEM retainers brand new from honda for cheap ($1-$2 each), so that seems like a good option. I'm going to email supertech and make sure I can use OEM retainers. I don't plan to have any aftermarket cams, just the OEM cams. So no need for anything custom, just want something that isn't 20+ years old.

I talked to some companies (although I will try brian crower), and it seems like supertech is the only company that makes off the shelf valves/springs for the DOHC ZC.

I would like just OEM valves since I have had good luck with those, but that isn't going to happen. All the autoparts stores don't carry oem replacement valves for that anymore. The supertech valves are a little overkill but $230 isn't a bad price. My machine shop guy said by the time he checks the old valves (sizes, and possible bent ones) as far as cost, you might as well just start fresh with new valves.

I know that back in the day people modified LS valve springs to work in the DOHC ZC, is that what you are talking about flat_?

Negative on the LS springs. I'll be using brian crower springs for the Mitsubishi 4g63.

The O.D. is a little bigger, so a little room needs to be made in the head.

I'm going to start on a little right up tonight on whats needed to install them.

If your adventurous and want to grind on a zc head that's getting harder to find I say these springs might be for you.

If experimenting isn't your thing then I'd go with Rocket motorsports or supertech springs.

Either way pm bogus for valves.

I think with a .060 shim will get you over the edge of the rough cast and the springs will drop in with out the grinding

I emailed supertech and they said those valve springs won't work with stock retainers, they require their titanium retainers. I guess they are slightly larger in diameter.
