Lightbulb DIY d-series cop/cpr with VAG coils

This diy shows you how VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) coils work on d16z6 and d16y8 d-series (and probably many more including b-series) engine with Coil On Plug aka Coil Pack Retrofit.

There are few topics on internet how newer Honda coils fit older plug wire engines but haven't seen much info about other manufacturer coils.

SO, I got a chance to buy low mileage coils from Bentley (also VAG) really cheap and gave them a try to be part of my Coil On Plug setup.

Pros using these coils:
+ much affordable price wise
+ can order new aftermarket wiring harness for cheap
+ they do work and fit great

Cons:
- these particular are a little bulkier than Honda coils
- not a Honda coil

On the left side is original coil, on the right modified to fit d16 engine

First thing to modify is to remove rubber seal and cut plastic lip off (see screwdriver tip). This small lip removal ensures coil to slide right right into spark plug tube. I did it with dremel but I am sure you can cut it with knife as well.

Now coil should be ready to fit your engine! Test fit it. Mine fit PERFECT, like meant to be there.

To protect moisture/water from getting close to plugs, you may want to add rubber seal!
Just carefully cut it little shorter with knife. See screwdriver tip for refference of modification place.
Note: this new rubber seal goes OVER valve plug cover "rings"!

Here is a photo of part number (07c905100). It's OLD, outdated and discontiniued, but you can find newest replacement part number which is 07c905115.

The one I used is original VAG coil made by Bremi, but you can buy these coils made by DENSO much cheaper than Honda ones. This coil comes from Bentley Continental and is also found in Audi 1.8T and other VW/Audi models.

Last but not least, you can buy completely new wiring harness or connectors with pigtails for these coils! Just search for "VW Audi 1.8T Ignition Coil Connector Plug Harness 97-05"

Looks great! Good write up. What devices/system are you using to control the COP's?

I am using Hondata with Hondavert cpr box (Hondata’s knockoff from Russia). Wiring instructions for cpr box are pretty straight forward.
I’ll check exact part numbers of updated coils and also fitment on B and H series.
