Arrow CRX Ignition switch

Few months ago, I notice a 'gold dust' on my headlight switch on the column.. hmm strange
Looks like my ignition switch is on its way out !
While pressing clutch to start car, turning the key and no turnover !
Switch key back and forth a few times and it cranks.
Also it may cause poor idle too sometimes when cold !
I ordered a new one, will let you know how it goes !

Heres a quick video I found on replacing it.


When it is starting to fail, the "run" contact will overheat and open,
causing the car to stall. A usual symptom is the dash will also go dark
when it dies (no warning lights, no shift indicator, nothing). Attempts to
restart usually result in the engine starting and running while you hold the
key in "start" and it immediately shuts down as soon as you release the key.
Wait five or ten minutes for the switch to cool down and it will start and
run normally until the "run" contacts overheat again. The cycle gets more
frequent as time passes, until it just won't run at all.
Some people have reported they can get it to run for a while by holding the
key between "start" and "run" - try to find the sweet spot where it [the engine] keeps
running, but the starter doesn't.

The part came in today so I went ahead replacing the part.

1. Removed negative battery terminal



2. Remove under fuse cover and console covers



3. Locate and asses old switch




4. Disconnect plug in fuse panel



5. Disconnect harness plug



6. Another plug to remove - 1 screw

I have one to replace, only acts up in the summer. same time main relay got filled with water from water leaks due to race suspension.

Another failure state is you have all dash lights in run position, but when you go to crank, everything dies on the dash and no crank.

Also at issue on mine, the cylinder lock itself and key are worn out, 400k miles will do that.

How did you bend the brake pedal arm?

In the pics, it looks like the brake pedal is closer to the gas pedal than normal.

when mine was going out i would actually lose power over 5k rpm, it was really weird. eventually it just quit starting, would turn over just fine but no main relay click. relay was fine and it was just this same issue.
