Default How to: use a close bolt pattern iacv on manifold with wide bolt pattern intake manif

When I was building my dohc zc I did not have the proper iac valve. Upon inspection of an Iac I had laying around the ports line up perfectly with one bolt attached. So I took a piece of 3/16" steel. Drilled a hole in one side to mount it to the Intake manifold. Mark the other side where it it would bolt to the iac. Take it off drill the other side and put a little bend in it. Reinstall it with a bolt and nut and your good to go. I've had this setup forever 5 months without a problem.

Get the direct link from photobucket and click the icon with the sun/mountains to get the picture working right.

Are you still able to easily disconnect the plug? also.. How did you make sure it was sealing well?

The plug is still able to be unplugged easily. And I but a bend in the steel enough so there was about an 1/8" gap between the steel and the iac. When it was tightened it pulled the iac in to the intake. Hasn't leaked on me yet.

Those points are important if anyone else were to use this guide.

I still think there is a possibility that over time it might start leaking. Cyclic fatigue from the constant engine vibrations can be a bit much down the road.

Meh, it works until you can find one for the cheap, hell it may work for a long time that way. Props for working in a brewery! I should make beer instead of just drinking it.

I was on a cheapo budget build. Spend maybe $450 on my full rebuild. I did the b18 rocker arms and ground them down cause I didn't want to spend the money on a new head that came with them. So I wasn't paying for a different iac when I had about 4 of these laying around. Lol.

I'd recommend a thin 1/8" alum plate with 4 holes drilled in it and hondabond'd & bolted to the manifold. 2 holes for the wide pattern, 2 for the air, then a 5th to nut/bolt the inner IACV bolt to the plate.

Th OP still has a great idea, and it could work with an aluminum tab as well.

Yeah it works in a pinch. I drive about 35 miles every day round trip to work for months now. Maybe one day I'll change it but for now I'm not worried.
