Arrow F.Y.I. Avoiding EF Clutch Pedal Assembly failure

1988-1991 Crx's and civics have a weak point on the clutch pedal.
They are prone to cracking at the welds, usually as the vehicle gets higher miles or with a heavier duty race clutch.
The bolt that the clutch pedal pivots on is welded to the pedal assembly; the welds are the weak point. It's usually not a problem until someone starts using a heavier clutch setup, but it is occasionally a problem for stock cars. Honda must have figured it out, because they reinforced the 90/91 pedal assemblies better so that the bracket flexes less and thus puts less strain on the welds.

Symptoms to look for are stress cracks in the welds or a clutch pedal that seems to bend sideways when you push it. If you see either of those things you'd best replace the pedal assembly sooner rather than later, because it will eventually snap and then it's really hard to drive home.

Any fix would be to weld in a new stronger peice of metal (as seen in pics)

Good write up man. Love the simplicity of a mechanical clutch linkage but as you said, this is a common issue with heavier pressure plates.
