Arrow External Tachometer D.I.Y Installation

Things you will need
Soldering kit
14 or 16 gauge electrical wires red/black "Optional"
Wire splicer
10mm socket for the bracket
Scissors or knife for cutting wires "if preferred"

Multi-meter "I didn't have one"




Okay so first thing first. I was screwing around Ebay looking for external tach with shift light. I then saw this one under bidding not sure what make there is no stamp or anything to it. The bidding for it starts at $39 so i was like, what the hell I'll bid $40 because it looks cool and redlines at 9k. Long story short i received an e-mail saying i won it Haha. Ok




The installation is very straight forward. There will be 3 wires on the tachometer green, red and black. The shift light will have a separate line but it just clips into the main harness of the external tach.






Check the preferred location with everything in-tact or one piece for proper clearance there's not much space since this is a 5" tachometer. Once you find the chosen area mark it for the bolts to go through. Another thing is there is no way to fit a drill with the available space and i was forced to use this angle pneumatic grinder.




A total of 3 holes will be needed 2 for the bracket and one for the tachometer wires, and make sure to take the cluster out before proceeding into any drilling. Make sure no wires underneath is expose to the drilling area "Proceed with your own precaution, I won't be responsible if you fuck up your stuff"

Here is the tach bracket bolted in the dash.





There will be 3 separated harness behind the cluster
Yellow the middle one, further to the right is fuel and temperature indicator and the tach as mark below.

Hence the blue wire on it? This is where the green wire from the tach will be connected.

Why remove the cluster when it is not needed?

Run a wire through the firewall to the connector on the drivers side shock tower, use a male spade connector, done.

OK now time spice that blue wire and connect it to green external tach wire.








The other 2 wire red and black will need to be run back down to where the radio is located. Try to hide it as much as you can and extend the wires if you have to. I always try to eliminate the fuse box for power source as it is messy to look at and just not my cup of tea. The power source will be the cigarette lighter outlet so run the wires there.

You will have to remove this panel underneath the radio 2 screws are holding it in place. Removed that and you should be golden




Once it is removed, you should be able to see this. There are 3 wires yellow, red and black it is obvious what you will have to do here.




Give the wires enough space when twisting it together so you have a clean area for soldering. Make sure to tape it just to be on the safe side.



Put everything back together and you have a working tachometer shift light. "If you're lucky"







Unfortunately this is a cheap Tachometer a turd and probably off by 1k or so. I will either return or get Auto-meter products by this spring, but anyway you get the point with the installation guide. For now i will have fun with my new toy and shift light.


Here is a video of me testing the shift light at 2k Rmp. The tach has about 7 or so different colors

Bone yes I am aware of that, it is much easier for me to pin the wire to the harness and that way i don't have to extend the wires.

Odd place to put a tach haha. Omi Power makes a tach section with a selection of rpm ranges of 8k, 9k, 10k redline and it goes right into the oem tach location.


Nice write up tho.

The tach is big that it won't really fit in any other location trust me i tried putting it on the other side of the dash.
