Default 2 new alternators Down in a week

Alright I'm new here but this is because I have recently bought my first Honda. 96 Civic CX D16Y7

Needs a few things and one of the first things I did was replace the alternator. The one that was on the car had the wrong pulley (3 rib) on it which was causing the belt to split. Went and got a duracrap alternator (should of just ordered a pulley). Dropped it in and it made some racket for about 10 sec and it was overcharging and the battery light was just barely on.
Battery sitting ~13v
alt charging 14.5v
with higher load 14.1v

I got my hands on a service manual. Followed the Charging system troubleshooting page 23-114. Came down to replacing the alternator.

Today I pulled the alternator took it back to Autozone they test and it failed. They get me another alternator and we test the new one before I leave and its good. Just put it back in. At first it seemed fine. Car was warming up around 2k and the alternator is still putting out 14+ volts, BUT no battery light. Alright grab my keys move my truck to take the Civic out for a ride. When I get back in the civic and start it up the battery light is back on. Full this time though, no half ass light like before.

Now battery sitting is at roughly 12.9v
charging at ~14.4v
load ~14v


Now the car is almost bone stock in terms of elecronics. Has a Bi mart battery
I don't blame my car for hating autozone alternators, but could this be something else that is frying the voltage reg? Or could the alternator control system be bad?

Well I would love to get a different brand alternator. Just this was what was in town ATM. And After this second one I'm a bit afraid to drop money on another alternator and have my car eat its voltage reg for breakfast.

How are the conditions of the ground wires? Any corrosion or crap built up on the wires means they need replacing. The car is 20+ years old...

Maybe you just got a bad new alternator from Autozone. Has the second alternator you installed gone bad too?

They are in really good shape actually. Car has 120k on it. And I'm the second owner.

I was going to make up some new ones out of some 4ga wire I have laying around to test But honestly I don't think it will change anything.

Yeah the second one looks like it has gone bad. I haven't had time to pull it and take it back to autozone to test, but my charging light is on.

Even though they may look ok. Check your charging and ground wires. You shouldn't be frying alternators like that.
