Default High Output Alt for D14Z4

Hello everyone, I was hoping some one could point me in the right direction. I am looking for a new alternator for my car. I will be running a very large stereo systems in it but I need an alt first. I am having issues finding out where to buy an alt at. My main issue is I know nothing about Honda motor let alone alternators. I just need to know what alts will fit what size engine. Will an 1.6l alt fit a 1.4l? I don't know.
Since my car is Eurospec (01 Civic Aerodeck) and all the major High output alternator companies are U.S its hard to get them the right info to help me out.
So basically, what engine will have the same alternator as my D14?
Does anyone here run a large system off there stock Alt?(4k+)
Who do you guys use for your high output alt needs?
Thank you all for any help.

Yes I actually read that post and every other post on this forum that show up when I search "high output alt" all 9 pages in the audio/electronics part. Most of which were in reference to CRXs. The thread you tagged was in regards to a ELD bypass mainly. As far as where to buy an alt it seems everyone recommend mechman which was my first choice but they do not have anything available for a 1.4L motor.

My issue is when ever I try to get a quote from an American company for an alternator they ask for my motor size, And when I have a motor that was never available for sale in America nothing shows up in their systems.

Now say for instance that an alternator commonly found on US spec Honda with a 1.6L or 1.8L would fit on my 1.4L eurospec car then making a purchase would be a lot easier. I hope that clear up what I am trying to ask.

Thank you for your reply and time.

Thank you so much! I have been searching for about two months for that info. It is really hard to search when I don't know the right questions to ask. This is really helpful I will be forwarding that to mechman in a few minutes. Thanks again

Heres a tip for you.

All D series alternators share the same frame. OBD2 alternators have a different connector vs OBD0 and OBD1.

So if you have an OBD2 D series harness in your car, buy the most powerful OBD2 alternator you can find. It will be plug and play.

If you have an OBD0/1 D series engine harness, but the most powerful OBD1/0 alternator you can find. It will be plug and play.

Or you can be someone with a little bit of brain power, and realize all the alternators physically share the same size and dimension, and figure out how to splice some wires, and use which ever one you want!

The only hitch you might run into is a pulley rib count difference. In which case, use the pulley off of your original alternator.

so I went above and beyond, instead of saying, odb2 y8? lol, awesome. welp, that helps him out when he goes to buy a high output alt from an American company.

Thank you Sir. If I understand you correct any D series alt will fit any other D series engine. Is that right?

Yes. The question is, does your crank pulley match your alternator pulley. And does your engine harness have the same shape connector?

Thank you to everyone for your help. This is my first Honda and it being Eurospec it is making it difficult to use my regular resources. Since im leaving in Italy and don't speak any itailian I cant run to my local store to get any help.

In my research I have also read rumors of a GM CS130 alternator fitting on a D series with a small shim(3 washer) between the mounting whole. Has any one else heard of this?

If you can figure out how to do the wiring, ie sourcing a pig tail, etc, all you need to do is find a way to get the alternator to spin, and you can use what ever your imagination can come up with!

Have you even tried to use the OEM alternator yet, with upgraded wiring, battery capacity and perhaps a capacitor?

Thank you FarmerD I can splice the wire if needed or I can have the alt company make an adapter harness if they know what im working with. I am assuming I can swap pulleys with what ever alt I end up buying. With everyone help here I will be able to forward this information to the different companies im contacting and see who wants to make the effort into making the right alt. Thank you all.

The rotor shaft might be a different diameter or length so I wouldnt just assume you can swap anything in there without a little bit of skill.

For best results stick with "honda fitment" alternators and just find one with the highest output.

An American 2005 Civic Si would come with a D17 and probably have a significant electrical load. Or a 2005 Canadian Acura 1.7EL might even have more options, and a "larger" alternator.

Some Hondas use a 3 wire alternator plug. I'm not sure which use the 3 wire plug. Just make sure you look to see what plug your alternator uses.

if its the same across the board, go back to that other thread I linked you to, and call up those companies and ask for a high output y8/y7 alt. but, I would also upgrade the battery wiring, ground wiring, and alt to battery wiring to help with the charging and get the most out of the alt

Have you even tried to use the OEM alternator yet, with upgraded wiring, battery capacity and perhaps a capacitor?
I have a small 75a alt with the Big 3 done in all 0 gauge and 2 runs of 4/0 welding cable. I have a optima blue G31 under the hood and 4 odyssey PC680s in the back I have 4 more on the way. I know I will need a bigger alt atleast a 240a if not 320a. I Havnt tried it yet but I don't it will support my amp. SQ4500.1 plus mids and high amp.
I may add a few banks of Super caps in the future but nothing will work as intended with out an HO alt. Unless I double my batts and run Brazilian amp.
