I know I know. get a 5 speed. But for the purposes of there is no chance of me getting rid of my 99 civic. Does anyone make a shifttronic modfication or sport shift mod. for my car. I think it would be nice to hook it up to paddle shifters and that would be about as unique as it gets. Thanks, and feel free to flame away.
i would think that would cost quite a bit of money to do something like that
i mean you would need a ecu capable of it, all sensors, wiring, probably a completely different tranny
it would definitely be a lot of money
i didn't know if there was something that would splice into the ECU and just allow it to shift up or down. I would find something to shift it like paddles or something and just run it to the ECU, but I know its not that simple.
I think the majority of german companies call it tiptronic, I think mercedes does as well. But I think level 10 and JMO have something like that. Though if you could truely call it that I dunno since i've never seen them in action.
I drove a passat with that tiptronice shift and unless you can control what rpm you want to shift at the ecu will automatically up shift at set rpms i was really trying to beat the shit out of this passat i could only rev it to a certain rpm. Maybe the other cars mentioned have better automatic sportshift.
If you want something like BMW's SMG(manual transmission controlled by computer), you'd need a custom transmission all together; our motors spin the opposite direction. With enough $$$, it can be done. The reason it needs to be hooked up to the ECU is because the fuel I think has to be cut to allow the gears to engage(Crome, etc. supports something like this; Full Throttle Shift, etc.).
Tiptronic and the likes are regular automatic transmissions; so adding paddles would probably be more related to the control unit than the actual transmission.
well i read up on it and the control unit from level 10 is $500 and its just a control unit with a push button shifter and a switch to activate it. It's not what i'm looking for so I'm gonna leave it the way it is.
well for future reference, 97 and up Preludes had a version of shiftronic on their automatics, quote from edmunds.com "The five-speed manual is a carryover from the previous Prelude, but the new four-speed automatic features a Sequential SportShift that allows drivers the option of selecting their own gears, similar to a Porsche Tiptronic." Yes its not a D but its the point rather. Im not sure if Honda put it in any other models, and havnt heard any recently.
I belive the RL uses has a paddle shift option, not sure if that will help you....
