Honda is in talks with Waymo, Google’s newly formed self-driving car project, to supply the tech company with vehicles.
If it moves forward, it will be a technical collaboration between Honda engineers and Waymo’s self-driving technology team, allowing both teams to learn from each other and work together. Honda will have to provide Waymo with vehicles that are specially modified to accommodate the self-driving technology, while Waymo would lend Honda its insight into self-driving technology, a field every automaker is interested in these days.
The step would help Honda towards its previously stated goal of having cars with automated driving capabilities on public roads sometime around 2020. Joining forces with Waymo may also give Honda a different approach at bring self-driving technology to market by doing so with a partner rather than alone. The type of vehicle to be provided by Honda wasn’t mentioned.
Waymo just received a fleet of 100 specially fitted Chrysler Pacifica minivans for testing, so it seems that Google knows it needs to make partnerships with existing major automakers.
If both parties agree to the partnership, Honda engineers in Silicon Valley and Tochigi, Japan will work closely with Waymo engineers based in Silicon Valley and in Novi, Michigan.
Now that everyone has seen what the Civic Type R looks like, pretty much nothing else in the Honda universe really matters anymore.
To carry the Japanese automaker’s performance flag until the Type R gets here, which is still ways away, the 2017 Honda Civic Si just made its global debut at the 2016 L.A. Auto Show.
Looking pretty tame compared to the hyper-aggressive Type R hatch, the Si strikes a nice balance between the regular Civic and the much-anticipated hot hatch. The Si will be available as a coupe and a sedan, but a short-shifting six-speed manual transmission will be the only one available.
The 2017 Honda Civic Si will be powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which the automaker says is “high-performance” and “high-torque.” Unfortunately, Honda didn’t release any information about power output, the one thing that prospective Si drivers care most about. The last Civic Si had 205 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque, so it’s safe to assume that this upcoming model’s figures will surpass the previous generation’s numbers.

The new Civic Type R is getting closer to launching in North America and Honda is teasing us once again with a new prototype.
This fresh prototype debuted alongside the new Honda Civic Hatchback at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. This is likely very close to the version that will come to the United States next year as a 2018 modelyear vehicle.
As can be expected, a body kit makes the new Civic Type R look plenty aggressive with larger fenders and air intakes. A large rear wing, a carbon fiber diffuser, and three-port centrally mounted exhaustsetup can be found out back.
Honda didn’t offer any specifics on the powertrain, though it’s already known that the car will use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. In the current Type R, this motor makes 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, numbers that are expected to be improved upon before the next Type R launches.
A six-speed manual and front-wheel drive are surely going to come standard with this car, while its brakes, steering, suspension, and tires will all be upgraded compared to the normal variant. This prototype sports bright red Brembos, which many are hoping will carry over to the production model.
The satin paint won’t make it to the production car, but North Americans will be able to buy this Type R before Europeans.

The 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback will arrive showrooms in the U.S. starting next Monday.
With a starting price of $20,535 including destination, the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback LX model comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission paired to a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 174 horsepower and 167 pound-feet of torque. Available for an additional $800 is a CVT that reduces torque to 162 lb-ft. The Sport model get a slight power boost with 180 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque with the manual, while the CVT keeps its 162 lb-ft of torque.
The 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport model starts from $22,135 while the EX model has a $23,635 price tag. Pricing for the Sport Touring trim will be announced at a later date, but it will only be available with a CVT. Upgrading to the EX-L Navi model with a CVT will run $26,135.
The Civic Hatchback LX model with a manual transmission will return 30 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway, while the LX equipped with a CVT gets 31 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. The Sport CVT model sees a slight reduction in fuel economy to 30 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.

After concepts and leaks have been teasing us for months, Honda has finally revealed the 2017 Civic Hatchback.
Those who opt for the hatchback model rather than the sedan or coupe will only have one choice in engine, a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit that makes 174 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque in LX, EX and EX-L trims. Sport and Sport Touring versions of the car are granted extra power, up to 180 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. That power boost comes courtesy of a high-flow center-mountedexhaust.
A CVT will be hooked up to the engine as standard, though a six-speed manual will be available on LX, Sport and EX trims. Honda says the car is expected to get 31 mpg in the city and 40 on the highway for a combined 34 mpg with the CVT, putting it 1 mpg behind the Civic Coupe on the highway.
Even more performance will be on tap when the Civic Type R, which will be based on the hatchback, arrives in the U.S. in 2017.
Inside, the Civic Hatchback will be familiar to anyone who has been in a modern Civic, save for the back end. Honda says the car offers 36-inches of rear seat legroom with a total of 122.9 cubic feet ofinterior space. The brand claims to have the “largest cargo carrying capacity in the competitive set,” but Honda didn’t share any details on this.
