This is my 3rd Tranny ....I put in a New Exedy Stage 1 Clutchw/ Pressure Plate....on a used Si Tranny from a friend. When i installed my tranny i could hit every gear except 5th gear and sometimes 4th would pop out. People told me it was because my motor mounts might be bad but it worked fine for all my other trannys. PS> I was in the car and drove it with the Tranny before i bought it and before i put it in on the engine i went through all gears and the tranny caught them (spinned the spindle to make sure it was working properly.) Then everything was fine until i was crusing back home on some long ass back roads and i was gunning my car in 4th gear......I topped it out and then threw my car N and coasted. when i went to downshift i saw that 3rd gear was not catching ... ITs there because i put into 3rd and u feel the grinding as if the shifter needs a little more push forward to catch 3rd gear. So 3rd gear was not abused or anything during the cruise so i dont know how a simple TOP end run in 4th gear affected this. I havent looked under the car yet to see if maybe the bitch pin came out. but what do u guuys think could of happend? What do i have to do to catch 3rd gear again since it seems like if the shifter could move one inch forward it would catch it.

When a syncro goes bad, the gear will end up going in, it will just sound like hell. The syncro is used for like .75 seconds DURING shifting. Once it is in gear, the syncro doesn't apply.
Also, if it feels like the gear is almost in, but the shifter is where it is supposed to be, syncro's aren't relevant. Just a rule of thumb. |

sounds like a bearing problem!
Maybe counter shaft bearing walked or something is broken!
