Default Driving with slightly bent drive shaft cause any immediate damage to transmission?

can a "slightly" bent drive shaft cause immediate major damage ?

I am planning on having the drive shaft replaced within the next 5 days...If i drive lets say another 200kms on the slightly bent drive shaft, will this hurt anything inside my transmission?

I can hear the vibration of the driver side drive shaft, at 100km very evidently.

I just had my transmission replaced and it works like a charm, I just not informed enough to know if a bad drive shaft will harm my transmission if I drive on it for another 200 kms or so...

I am aware that the drive shaft will prematurely damage wheel bearings...

My main question is this, how much leeway in terms of regular daily driving do i have with a slightly bent drive shaft? Before it actually starts to break down other related parts prematurely?

depends on how badly its bent....

But I would suggest NOT DRIVING IT AT ALL

Is the car RWD? or are you talking about an axle on FWD transmission?

Either way it will probably destroy the output seal of the transmission/axle seal. Probably do damage to the input seal of the pinion if it has a rear diff.

It could quite possibly do damage to the casing, and possibly gearing inside as well if its the bend is putting any pressure at odd angles into the trans.

as soon as you drive it like this, it will start wearing other components prematurely. HOw much you drive it, will determine how fast they fail.

if you expect 5 days, just bum rides for 5 days till you fix it. Cant hurt to wait, but not waiting can definitely hurt

A bent driveshaft can;

Wear out U joints,

Destroy bearings, be it rear end or transmission.

Pinion gears may also be damaged.

Drive shafts aren't constant velocity, they change speed as the rotate, they speed up twice and slow down twice per revolution due to the U joints. the bend can throw this out of wake causing vibration. Vibration kills bearings etc.

Front wheel drive drive shafts work at an angle at each end. That is why there are CV and tripod joints. A bent shaft simply changes that angle as the shaft rotates and also runs out of balance. It depends on how bad it is bent, but it will do as much damage or not as a similar out of balance tyre.

How it got bent and what other damaged may have occured then is more of an issue.

I am assuming its bent because when I looked under the car while it was up on a hoist running the mechanic pointed out that the drive shaft had a slight out of norm rotation (wobble) at the tire end of the drive shaft.

To be honest I doubt it is bent. A CV or a tripod may be on the way out.

yes. replace the drive shaft and you'll be good to go. Keep the old one and return it to the store as a core.

It is a half-shaft, not a drive shaft on a Honda Civic.

Just replace the half shaft...like $50-60 plus labor.
