For you it would be a DOHC ZC or DOHC Rover (not sure what model exactly). After market would be the MFactory close gear set.

is it possible to put the guts from a 95 SI trans in a 88-91 case? wasn't sure how compatable it would be. we tried some swapping between a 97 trans and a 94 and ran into troubles.

Only 3-5 gears.

I have a 96 EX tranny I will like to now wich gears to change to go faster.(short gears)I have arias 75.5 Hi comp Bisimoto Stage 2 cam Header ECU (Crome) Aerospeed FPR Cam Gear 4-2-1 Header 2.5 exahust KMS block Gaurd and valve springs and retainers.Just need 2 D the tranny...

DOHC ZC 3-5 gears, MFactory Close gear set, or MFactory FD. Just depends on what you're using the car for, how much faster you want to be, and how much you want to spend.

i think this pic should be on the first thread post to help ppl count gears. i can't take credit for the pic, matt(theacidbeaver) did for me when i need to count the teeth on my DOHC ZC tranny. the numbers on the pic are DOHC ZC.

Also, some canadian market hatchbacks may have had this FD as well.

thanks for this page I use this info every time I open my trans like every few weeks
I kill 2nd gear 3rd all the time and have had a final drive go too
my trans dont like 7000 rpm lanches with 10psi of boost and 24s then shifting at 8600
good thing I get sohc trans free or cheap

so all 90-91 EX's have the 4.05 final drive? I got one today hoping it had the 4.25. Does it have the big bearing case of the SI or the small bearing dx? it'll still be better than the 3.88 4speed in it now!
guess we'll find out soon I wanna change fifth in it before installing.

The suspension should always be faster than the engine - BMW The term stage was created to make mentally slow ppl fell physically fast. my DOHC ZC - 115.76whp and 97.13wtq (untuned)
