Default What happens if your upper ball joint gives out?

my upper ball joint on the driver side is squeaking like a mofo, whenever i slow down or go over a bump. What happens if i put it off for a bit? i'm gonna have to sell some shit to get that 100 bucks for the replacement upper control arm (why dont they sell the upper ball joint seperate???).
And will i have to get a new alignment after i replace the upper control arm?
i've tried reading around, but all i find are guides and stories on the lower ball joints.

You will need an alignment.

Can you get a second hand one cheaper.

If it fully fails the wheel will lay over and the chassis will hit the ground. Wheel, tyre and body will all potentially be seriously damaged, and that is without actually considering other damaged to property and persons caused by loss of control.

Ebay, pair of arms is like $70.

Lube well.

Also I'll bet money its not the ball joint.

Some white litium grease will prove this.

where do i apply the grease? and i'm pretty sure its coming from the upper ball joint, i took the tire off, took out that long bolt that goes through the LCA and the knuckle, and pushed the knuckle down several times, and i could hear that the squeaking was coming from up top near the ball joint.

Are you sure the noise is not coming from the shock or spring seat areas.

ya, i saw that, but wasnt that actually the lower ball joint (which ive replaced recently)?
And when you replace your Upper ball joints, do you just go with the whole control arm set up? or do you replace the balljoints themselves? i konw its harder to find the joints themselves, perhaps due to the fact that its difficult to install them, but what are your thoughts on it?

Its a 96 teg, which would be the same as a 92-95 civic right?

Yes.

The hardest part is getting the half shaft out and the CVs off it and everything marked so they go back exactly the same.

If grease comes out, dirt and water gets in. It might not be instant death to the parts, but it sure as hell increases rates of wear and reduces life.

Hardest part is taking the outer tie rod off of the inner tie rod. be warned, the below is quite expensive.

Instead of messing with the bellow, save you pennies up and buy a reman rack. If the bellow is like that inner joint will be toast.

I just bought a reman 90-91 PS rack for $189 shipped, will get $30 back when I return the core.

EF racks are easier to change.
