so i was looking for a beater, found this 4G civic the thing had no back window, it was sitting on 4 spare tires. Apparently the dude screwed another guys ex 6 months after they brokeup, and he took out his anger on the civic. No matter tho, my buddy has another dead civic that i stole the hatch from and i had a set of GSR's i just bought the week before.
I thought it was a decent deal at the time considering it was running (I paid $500), it burned oil tho, it had a decent body, rusty of course but not that bad considering its prob been thru a bunch of winters.
well the day after i bought it and cleaned it all up, i noticed a check engine light come on (wasnt on when i bought it), and it was starting to bog really badly at low speeds. then on my drive home from work, it bogs really bad again, and i hear a CLUNK! turns out my tbelt snapped....oh well i guess i got hosed on the deal, you live you learn!
anyways enough about my blabbing heres the pixors!
man these were ugly! they quickly got changed out for a set of spare Si seats i had!
waiting for something to go in...i have lined up another stock D15B2 that had been rebuilt , but the guy wants like $400 for it....i just want something thats gonna be reliable! have been thinking about switching to a B18! lol
also came with a fart can exhaust, doesnt sound that bad actually its about the only thing on the car that is newish.
ahhh much better!

engine is all prepped to be pulled out! only the 2 side bolts for the mounts need to be removed.... just need to get my hands on a crane and another engine of course.
nothing drastic as its gonna be my beater, i want something relaible, thats all! and i already have another project car in the works (see my sig) that is also currently at a halt due to clutch/transmissions issues.
altho i do plan on sanding the car down repainting it white (with spray paint haha), so the hatch matches and so i can get some deep marks out due to it being keyed lol....
looks good, IMO on the new hatch put the red center piece between the lights on there i think it looks alot better. 500 isnt that bad even if it aint running but ran when you got it
i got really lucky on those wheels too picked them up for $175 from this older guy that originally had a GSR, then he got a 350Z, and when i picked up the wheels there was a brand new 335i coupe! the guy liked his 2 doors lol.
Nice, thats what i was going to do, get another 91 si and do somthing d related and no more down time when getting stuff done to my other ed7. Keep it uo man!
Nice find sir. Good luck with getting her roadworthy again. I'm slowly becoming attatched to my headache/beater 89 hatch. I think I finally got her ironed out tonight...
im such a JDM whore, just got this baby in the mail today....prob wont be going on my DD permanently tho, id like to get it painted black and put on my main project car.
paid $190+ship...not too bad considering the other people on ebay were currently asking $300+.
this guy had the whole front end conversion for like $900, i was so tempted to get it all lol, but figured i shouldnt right now haha.
just some comparison pics! man its so sexy! cant wait to get it on
so i just got my self a rebuilt D15, well at least the guy claimed it was rebuilt, i have a receipt, the inside of the head looked clean but the outside looked like shit.
also bought myself a crane to make things easier for me as well, scored a good deal for it $175 new in the box!
started taking things apart and swapping rusty parts and bolts across the 2 motors.
i will be using a spare Si tranny and a set of poly mounts that werent used in my last setup! my buddy who i took the hatch from also had a essentially new clutch that he put in about 5 months before it died, so i snagged that too.
also have a spare DC header that will be going as well!
i got most of the stuff cleaned up just need to swap oil pans and put on a new gasket.
will also need a new alternator . the ones on both of these engines didnt pass testing.
pics!
Si tranny all painted up!

oil pan had a nice layer of gunk on it, cleaned up and painted!
block
also painted the motor mounts to cover up the rust
and this is my garage lol, my dads maxima there has been dead for about 7 years, believe it or not i do park my Black Civic in there lol
got lots of work done the last few days, i wish i had some more time to dedicate to this mini project right now, but things are coming along nicely.
got the clutch installed, tranny bolted up and wiring harness in place, and today i had some time to drop it in the car.
now this is essentially the first time ive done a swap by myself without any real help from anyone, i only had a buddy help me push my crane over to the car and thats about it!
lessons learned today while dropping the motor in:
1. definitely helps to have another person there to help guide it in
2. hooking up the chain to the lower dizzy bolt makes it drop in unevenly, prob should take off the dizzy next time and hook it to the upper bolt like the manual says!
3. leaving the pass side mount on the tranny makes it harder to drop in (directly linked to lesson 2 haha)
lots left left to do still, need to torque down the engine mounts, fill the engine and tranny with oil, fill it with coolant, install the battery, hook up the linkage, install headlights and bumper.
the valve cover will be changed off for cleaner one that isnt chipped up
chipped paint due to the crookedness of the engine when it dropped in
shes alive!!!!! im happy to report that the car started up on the first try, and with the exception of a fuel leak (i was missing gaskets) and the fact that the rad fan didnt turn on for like 20 min, everything seems to have been a success! only time will tell now as to whether or not my work was good lol.
just need some minor body work and then she'll be road ready!
so after a nice tremclad paint job on the hatch and the front bumper filler, i had some time to throw back on the headlights, bumper and the JDM Spoiler! I was gonna save it for my other project car but since its white already i figured why the hell not! And damn does it look sexy! I love these LED lights in the back :thehump:
Still having a small issue with CEL7 (TPS), the light comes on every now and then, and the throttle will sputter when i step on it....but it works fine as of right now.
so overall with the wheels, new engine, some new gaskets, Si tranny, a new alternator and the car itself i put a little under $1400 into it, not bad considering, theres an almost new clutch in there, and the engine is rebuilt! Def helped that my buddy had a parts car lol
still some work left to do tho, still needs a stereo, still want to take care of some rust spots, and still need to paint the hood. but she should be a good daily driver!
ill be snapping some more pics when i have some time.
thanks man! but dont let the pics fool you, this winter has been brutal on the car, as rust has taken hold of the rocker panels and eaten them away...but thats my fault cause i havent washed the car since these pics were taken lol.
she runs like a champ though! just took it on a road trip from Edmonton to Golden to do some boarding at Kicking Horse!
the back side windows? im not sure about im assuming its limo. it was on the car when i got it!
