*UPDATE* Got some more pieces painted and installed. Also FINALLY received my IM thermal gasket from Canada...never again will I order from over the border. Took 2 wks and 3 days for AIR MAIL! BTW, the red RTV around the OSU is to ensure no leaks...had troubles with some in the past leaking. Not on mine clean block!
![]() Everyone, give Remo a big round of applause for his work on my rusty oil pan. He spent well over a hour at his work grinding and cleaning up my rust bucket of an oil pan. Big thanks man!

Started by having Remo bead blast it at work. Then shot it with Duplicolor high-temp primer. Then shot Duplicolor wrinkle black...about 5-6 coats. I couldn't find a high-temp wrinkle itself, so combo will have to do.
The reason behind the 68mm TB, the Edelbrock had been previously bored out to 68, the thermal TB gasket is 68...so it's only logically. I know it's overkill, but an aftermarket 62mm TB is as much as a 68mm...so why not?

*UPDATE* Here's the oil pan pics during the painting process, during it drying, and mounted with the Blox oil magnetic oil plug. Notice the pitting the rust caused...:tu:

Oh, plus I'll be looking at getting a sweet used Quaife LSD in Jan/Feb at an awesome price too. Not to mention I've been stocking up on transmissions...just picked up a mint Del Sol Si trans w/ 49k on it for $100. Grand total of transmissions in my garage = 7 or 8 I think.

And here's what I've been able to accomplish or not accomplish since I got off work today. Scratch another Craftsmen adapter...still can't get that bitch of a crank pulley bolt off. Damn whomever put a non-Z6 crank pulley on this Z6 you bitch!

yeah i was over at daniel's today and we was discussing about that underneath his suspension and i do not believe its for adjusting anything. looks kinda like a fill cap maybe. however it is much beefier than my k sport pro suspension. the suspension is balling thats for sure as well as his motor build too.

Thanks Dan! Yes, I believe it's just the permanent cap/plug where they fill the "high-pressure gas" into the strut.
I had a pry bar lodged in the FW and the webbing of the block...even with Dan and me we couldn't remove that bitch. Oh well, Mike will come to the rescue Monday with a 3/4" and if needed a huge 1" impact! LOL *UPDATE* I pretty much just finished up the motor; got all the little things painted, got the T-belt and cranked it a good number of times with Duck's crank pulley tool. The thing spins freely and smoothly; I can hear and feel the compression/air rushing out the CC when turning it over too. Anyhow, here's how I left the project as of an hour ago...enjoy! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh yes, that tranny cleaned up nicely!

Yep, wire brush and Xtreme Clean Simple Green. The thing that really helped was a can of brake clean though. Trade secret!

*UPDATE* Got the trans painted and the starter painted, plus some other small things. I finished up the block today (forgot the plastic back-plate behind the cam gear...DUH!), got it timed up, and it's all set for an install. Now what to do about the engine bay?

Okay, what do you all think about this interesting idea or styling tip, two tone the engine with the color of the car? But just not any color, another color totally off the wall different...like the below? My plans are to get the car painted frost white down the road; so would a bright/ vibrant blue be a cool accenting color you think?

hmm maybe. to each his own.
do it the way you wanna, and how you like... make your car different. mine all matches... my motors just different. blacked out except the head... the valve cover is color matched to the car. i should have it dropped in tonight. we'll see. |
