Question Drag racing advice

Howdy!

The Las Vegas speedway will open this Friday for midnight mayhem and I would very much like to take my car there to see how it will do. I am a n0obie when it comes to drag racing, and so I have a few questions about driving technique. My engine is a D15B VTEC. How should I shift when I go down the track? Do I just take it to redline then shift? A good buddy of mine tells me to find out where the peak HP is for each gear because each gear loses power at certain RPMs. He also says to keep my foot on the accelerator even when I'm shifting. Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Well from my little experience about Drag Racing in a stick, he is right find your powerband and shift right past the end of that that way when you enter the next gear you are already into the powerband. The "double clutched" shifting he is talking about ill tell u right now unless u have a REALLY quick shift dont do that, even if you have a rev limiter you can still over rev and slapp a valve or two so just shift normal but SLAM IT! i mean have no mercy its a race. Also DO A LONG AND GOOD BURNOUT! i cannot stress that enough, when i raced trucks at the tracks man i would KILL people cuz i would do a REALLY good burnout everytime no matter what. it will make your 60ft times so good and 60ft times are KEY! also get there early you said your new so get there as soon as the gates open so u can get a feel for your car cuz its a totally different driving then normal street driving. Good luck man let us know how your times are hope u do good. Remember if its Bracket racing its all about Consistency (sorry i cant spell but u get the picture) OH YEAH on take offs as soon as that second lights gets as bright as it gets THATS WHEN U DROP THE CLUTCH AND SLAM THE GAS! your car takes time to react, if its a PRO tree then as soon as u see yellow GO FOR IT! good luck.

lol yeah thats why i used to race slow lol unless i was racing my brothers supercharged EXT Cab Chevy yeah i broke 13's with that lol. deep staging is where u stage until u roll past the pre stage light and make it so just the stage lights are on, your ET will go down but it will hurt your MPH. LIttle River they allow it or well they did before greg took over but since him i dont know i dont like that place anymore.

Say you finish a drag race. Where do you go from there? I watched an event and for three hours never bothered to watch the end of the track. Turn right? left? who yields? where to get time slip? Stuff like that.

o my bad man i thought u were asking what deep staging was. yeah i know at me and Rotorys local track its a left turn but to keep it simple always yeild to them that way even if they yeild to there wont be a wreck at 100+mph and the time booth is usually on the return road

W/ that motor shift right in between 6900-7100 if it is stock "No cam or valvetrail upgrades." That motor is nice all the way to there. I had one in my rex that I put in and I would shift @ 7500 but Mine mad power to there NP, and I have been racing for awhile. Good luck too you!

hey pisetup...i think its going to rain again on friday..im kind of hoping it does too because im trying to put my block in right now...oh and the speedway is a lot diff than the streets...i had a bad problem with wheel hop thru all my gears on the track untill i got mounts, traction bars, and slicks.you already know that our lights are a little different out here right.you get the two staging lights then the 3 light up at the same time and then goes green so be ready to go..see your car out there if it doesnt rain and gl..

^ They changed the light. It looks like a regular stop light now. Red, yellow, then green. So as soon as yellow hits, I hit the gas?

try it out..... get in a few runs so u know what to expect from the light situation... also.. practise ur launches... those are very crucial.. empty parking lot... try launching at 4 k.. then adjust from ther e.. till u get no wheel spin ...
