Default Another smog question

i did my smog today and of course it failed with high hc and very high co i was reading the high hc is unburned fuel and high co is when the air/fuel mixture is too rich. no i have a 94 civic lx with a d15b7 in it with cai and exhaust. if i run a new o2 sensor would that fix my high co readings. high hc reading is a basic tune up. thanks any comments would be great full

HC is RAW fuel.... completely unburnt. As where CO is partially burnt.

always get a tune up before a smog test. you seem to have an ignition system problem (spark plugs, wireset, dizzy cap and rotor). You should also get a new air filter, change the oil and filter, fuel filter, check timing, valve lash adjustment, and if it comes down to it run some sea foam in the gas tank and through the intake. if you still don't pass catalytic converter. following these steps I have always passed. Also you're not in cali so it shouldn't be as hard to pass.

high hc and high co usually means your running rich. what are your other readings? whats your o2 and nox levels at? ya id do what neon said, probably a tune up will fix it, if all your readings are a little high can usually mean a cat on the way out but i would do the cheapest first

Get a tune up and run some seafoam or other top engine cleaner through the intake and also change out the pcv valve and make sure the hose isn't clogged. If all that fails you may end up needing a cat

Can we get these with proper numbers? Ive never seen CO2, CO, or O2 not as a percentage.

Try this please,

O2 %
HC ppm count
CO %
CO2 %
NOx ppm count

If you get me these ill let you know if your within catalyst efficiency range.

I had a similar issue getting through emissions and did what BeerDrinkin is suggesting. It worked.

You have to clear this first. The ECU is trying to compensate for O2 sensor reading and has reached it's limit.

Speculation is your O2 sensor is not reading right anymore(possibly too lean) and the ECU keeps adding more and more fuel making your mixture too rich.

1st step for clearing a code 43, change O2 sensor reset ECU warm it up and drive it a few hundred miles. If it doesn't come back, that was your main problem.

If that doesn't do it, fuel filter or regulator(if you have an aftermarket adjustable one, is it set too high?)

All other suggestions will help, but all CEL has to be cleared first
