so i think my cars gonna have to be torn apart AGAIN, 2 things wrong, the timing belt wont stay on all the way, it moves over with about 1/3 to 1/2 hanging off the pulley so its getting worn VERY quickly... could that be tensioner? or what else?
also, i think i have to pull the head off and get it checked and probably machined because when i start it when its hot it runs rough for a minute then smooths out and theres smoke coming out the exhaust like there was when my head gasket blew, one of my buddies said to have the head machined because his mini-me swap did the same thing and it was letting some coolant into the cylinders, is this the most likely cause? |

The timing belt is moving off the cam because you are missing the guide that keeps it in place. There a re two guides, they are behind the crank pully under the lower timing cover.
![]() Number 12, there are two of them they keep the timing belt centered. The second issue...... Is there oil in the coolant? or vise versa? Are you loosing coolant and over heating? Is there white, sweet smelling smoke coming out the exhaust? These are all symptoms of a bad headgasket....... |

i see the problem with the guide now, i think i am missing the one on the outside
and im not sure on the oil in the coolant, theres no coolant in the oil though im pretty sure, im not over heating, its actually running pretty cool, and yes there's white smoke coming out of the exhaust when its been ran for awhile then i shut it off and start it up it smokes for a few seconds and runs rough then smooths out after i rev it and then it runs fine oh, and i just replaced the head gasket a couple weeks ago |
