Question JDM B18C + S80 Oil Change - which type oil?

Hi all, going to change oil in the engine this week and clutch replacement is on its way so gearbox oil is about to be changed too.

Im in Ireland, which oil spec should I go for? Fully syntec, semi syntec and what thickness for the engine? 0-30 or which else?
What type/thickness oil for the gear box and how many liters does it take?

Engine has genuine 200k kms on it but runs very very smooth and powerful, so its just like fresh one to me..

Im not going to race my car so often and wont beat redline so often, but just 90% for daily driving.

What would you guys recommend?

10w30 no synthetic, just old dinosaur oil.

Your still gonna need two and a part liters of oil, Follow normal filling procedure and when it is full the fill plugs threads on level ground, it is full.

Your owners manual will list the metric and US standards of fill.

U mean not even semi-synthetic? Just so called fully mineral oil?

what sort of gearbox oil should I use? just something pretty standard MTF ?

10w30 motor oil, simple and cheap, what Honda calls for.

word of advice
when the transmission king transzex of hondas tells you something nicely
listen

consider the scenario
you DONT know what to put in your transmission for oil
you POST on the internet asking what to put in
then you DECIDE you know whats best anyway?

ok

you can buy as expensive 10w30 as you want to for your transmission
there are many brands
he is recommending standard oil because honda recommends it...its also proven to work good

pennzoil syncromesh is also good in my opinion
honda mtf used to be good, but i heard they changed the formula so i dont know anymore

How am I suppose to know what should I get for my transmission when honda doesnt explain what sort of oil is that "Genuine Honda MTF"?
So I just asked here. Taking my words back if he's as good, cause I dont know as much tech-spec about hondas as he does, and even if I didnt knew what I was speaking about I'd probably answer the same to some PEUGEOT user dammit. Sorry my bad

I put a built motor in my civic that cost damn near 6k. I put advance auto 10w30 $2.69 qt oil in my car for 8k miles.

If you change your oil when you are suppose to, you shouldn't have problems from brand to brand... More preference than anything these days.

Since we are talking tranny fluids, why did you change the subject to motor fluids?

Cheap oil is all that is needed. Brass synchros are nothing more than brake pads. So lets use an oil that is slicker....that way the brakes (synchros) can't grip as much and lead to crunching gears when forcing the shifts.

Going back to my grandfather, the best engine oil is the one changed at proper intervals.

Mind you this was the middle of the 70's but he changed the oil every 2k miles, filter every 4k...he got free oil from work.

With current oils, I have no issues going 5k changes. Being a courier and driving 120 miles a day I've been going 7.5-8k intervals on engine oil change.

Mine you I have four Civics, all are above 250k miles, over 1.1 million miles total.

I did not change the subject, I was asking about motor and transmission fluid, just as per title (...B18C + S80....)

ok so u mean, less synthetic oil I go for - better it will be because its thicker,gives less grip between moving parts so it will protect synchros better. Did I understand right this time? There is a major major problem here in Ireland about getting something u want... in most cases people must go for something from whats available to get, now yesterday I ran trough three autoparts dealers in my town and they did not have 10w30 motor fluid... the nearest I could get was 5w30(so called semi-synthetic motor oil)... I will be changing my motor oil now every 500kms for first 4-5times until it gets clean because I dont know how my car was treated by previous owner before but I dont give a dam, Im going to look after this one. Should I start of the the same type and spec oil from the very beginning and stick to it after all first cycles of changing it, or could I start with what I have got(5w30) and then maybe change to 10w30 if I will find it...? Need your advise

By the way - does it makes any difference for MTF type if gear box came with factory LSD? My gearbox has LSD printed on it...
