Default How To adjust blowoff valve.

Hi guys I thought maybe it would be cool to have some pros post here how they adjust a blow off valves, reason is I still to this day don't know if i have mine adjusted right, i know that your supposed to not hear any surge back threw the turbo but air filters and exhaust can often make this hard to hear. so i wondered what other tricks or tips are out there on this topic. what are the pros and cons of having it to loose or to tight and that all important how to know when its just right. perhaps if we get enough good feedback here it would make a good sticky tech article.

agreed. but must of us dont have a dyno in our garage.

I have a greddy type S bov. I adjusted it until you can barly hear it sucking in air at idle. sounds great but i wanted it louder so i loosened it a couple notches after that

turn the screw until it doesnt leak. too tight and you get compressor surge.
too loose and it leaks.
just turn the screw and go wot in 3rd

^^yeah, pretty much

If you have compressor surge you'll hear it. It's a very distinct sound.

I actually had to clip a coil out of the spring because it was still too stiff even at the lowest setting.

i know how to do it but the easiest way is to let it be till you get tuned and while tuning mess with the bov... the greddy s is actually supposed to leak in vacum..

yeah mine does leak under vacuum, you can feel the plunger fluttering if you put your finger on it, its kinda hard to hear any surge with my air cleaner set up and exhaust. I think i still hear a tiny bit of surge when i shift early and at lower boost, but i don't hear any at higher boost, so i think this means i am still a tad bit to tight?? if you go to loose what will you hear or notice?

thats how the greddy unit works
i dont understand it either, but at idle it will flutter. if you tighten it to the point where it dont flutter you get allot of surge.
