The Man, The myth, The legend
|
For years, I have focused on naturally aspirated performance. I loved, and still do love, the challenge of sailing in uncharted waters, and extracting what was seen as impossible power.
Last year, Bisimoto Engineering participated in a high profile engine challenge/shootout, to determine which shop could produce the most HP/litre in a streetable, unleaded fuel engine. Cosworth, and I opted for all motor builds, as a torture test was promised for the engines, and the units had to fit in a factory chassis. Long story, short, other competitors with boosted setups faired very well in the competition, and even though Bisimoto with a 360 hp F22A engine placed better than Cosworth, we did not win the event. At the award ceremony, I was approached by an employee of the winning team, and asked why we chose to run n/a. I simply answered that we wanted to build an engine in the true spirit of the competition: a reliable, streetable, chassis friendly engine. I guess that answer was not good enough, as he responded, "didn't you build all motor, because that is all you know?" I quickly shared that n/a is quite difficult, and that we have built, and tuned customers boosted engines for years, and frankly, it was not as challenging. He chuckled and walked away saying, "yea, all motor is all you know". Well, after that interaction, I promptly walked over to Jonathan Wong of SuperStreet magazine, and shared with him my new desire: To build the most powerful street, small displacement Honda ever...in a Wagovan (just to be absurd). It would not be a dyno queen, but a car that will be driven, to and from events, shows, meets and...the supermarket. Here is a list of my poison: Chassis: 1988 Civic Wagon, 2WD Suspension: Progress Series 1 coil-over suspension Progress Honda EF sway bar Progress Spherical Solid control arm Bearings Energy Suspension Hyper-Flex bushings Head: D16Z6 head (thanks, L&T) Bisimoto "no-slip" Cam Gear Bisimoto Springs and Titanium retainers Bisimoto Level 3.6 camshaft Supertech Stainless Steel intake valves Supertech Inconel Exhaust valves Golden Eagle Head gasket Block: D16Z6 (thanks Santos Jr.) Arias 9:1, 75.5mm pistons Golden eagle sleeves Bisimoto Spec H-beam steel Rods Honda Bearings Stock Ported Oil pump Bisimoto/Evolution Aluminum Flywheel Bisimoto/Evolution Sandwich plate K&N oil filter AEM Oil Pressure gauge Hasport D-series EF Mount kit (Brian G. is the man!) uhhhhh.... i need new boxers. wow im really excited about this. i feel like we're (all us D enthusiast) watching Frankenstein about to take his first step from off the surgical table. and the fact this this is all going in the very sexy, unicorn wagovan just takes it to the next level. I cant wait till tuning day! the only question i have is: Is this precise getting new suspension, wheels, paint and other goodies?

I am still in amazement with this. I really hope you keep updating us with this thread. I would love to see this thing finished so that everyone knows that you can build a sohc motor to these levels. People always underestimate this. I am glad you are out to tackle this.

i would hope so. this thing would squat like no other if the suspension stays stock. but it would be funny to watch the car rock around!
