help!! zc crank in y8 block - D-series.org

Question help!! zc crank in y8 block

i have a zc crankshaft in a y8 block...ive built the motor already i just cant time the damn thing i have a skunk 2 cam gear if that helps


i know they are interchangeable


and it would be good to get the y8 oil pump ported and "shimed"

but what about the timing!!

If its a y8 cam use the y8 cank pulley set timing the way it says for a y8 in the fsm. If its a z6 cam use the z6 crank pulley or the zc one and time how the fsm says

everything im using is y8...still timing is off

your timing it wrong, set the bottom end to top dead center, then set your cam so the marks sit level with were thw valve cover seals and slide the timing belt on, also put you cam gear at 0* if its a Y8 gear set it to 4.75* advanced if its a Z6 gear. make sure by the part number because there are alot that say for 88-00, i know my skunk 2 gear needs to be 4.75* advanced to work on a y8 cam.

also plort the oil pump sure, dont shim it though. more pressure != more volume

well i used a d17 crank in my d16y8 bottom end as well as a y8 head and cam. so the same thing as you but a d17 crank, as far as timing goes d16 cranks and d17 cranks are the same. its the cam that makes the difference or the block height(d15) when mechanically timing a dseries
