Use your stock cams to break the engine in.

No, its going to run like dog shit, and its going to be lean at WOT in the upper RPM range. Youre going to need to go WOT and rev it out a lil to break it in properly.

oh sorry,

WOT- Wide Open Throttle

Basically, what I would do is have a street tuner there to do intial tuning as you break in.
Do you first start up with a basemap on it and with the tuner all setup. Once started have your tuner immediatly get to work getting the idle sorta decent, then quickly go out and start breaking it in while he tunes. The initial break in is very fast, so you could probably go ahead and change the oil after the break in and continue tuning.
It would only take a few hours and you would have a healthy broken in engine with a pretty decent street tune on it (if the tuner is any good)

I don't understand how you can brake in the motor. I sit in the driver's seat while braking.

Youre completely ignoring what I said.

YES you have to break your engine in. It takes less than an hour.
Start it up, get it up to temperature with casual driving then go pull vacuum on the rings by accelerating and decelerating in gear, each time increasing rpm. come home, change the oil. Then go beat on the car with fresh oil and a fairly conservative max rpm.

It will run richer than normal, but not excessively. The stock ECU will be more than up to the task.

Pull the ECU fuse, crank the engine over in short spurts until the oil light goes out. Put the fuse back in. Start it up. Let it warm up. Check for leaks, listen for nasty noises. Set ignition timing (correctly). Drain oil, change filter. Replace oil and filter. Drive the car in 1-2-3, putting load on the engine. For example get going to 20MPH, put it in third, then stomp on the gas pedal, until you hit about 3500RPM. Let off the gas. Do this a few more times. Do not drive at constant speeds in one gear. The rings must seat quickly.

After doing this for a while, you should notice less smoke, better power, and no issues. If there are no issues, drive it like you stole it. Change the oil to whatever you want at 500 miles and put a new filter on.

Done.

You should be completely fine with your stock ECU. But keep in mind to extract maximum power and reliability you need to tune it. If you have any other questions or concerns shoot me an email and I will get you squared away:
