just got a new to me '96 dx hatch. after replacing O2 sensor and seeing exhaust mani runners have decided to replace it with a header and full custom exhaust. also want to swap on a z6 intake. don't want to kill mileage thou, so will it take a hit on the mileage or will it stay the same if i can keep my foot out of it.

as long as you shift before 3k youll get better mileage.
i did on my y7
but bro get a y8 intake manifold...its like the TYPE R of the d series

The I/H/E will increase the efficiency to move air in and exhaust out of your cylinders, which will aid in power (to a degree, it's not a miracle or anything). this also has a good benefit to fuel mileage, as you require less fuel to do the same amount of work.
Just keep driving the same way you do now and you will see a small improvement. Nothing like you read in the ads for parts. Best mileage will come from driving like a grandma and shifting early and easy applications of the gas and gentle stops (means you aren't driving so hard you need to stop quick, cuz that means you just thwarted power being produced by the engine)

A Y8 manifold is nice, but you need to have other improvements made to the ariflow in and out to actually benefit from it. Kinda like people who slap a big throttle body on their car expecting huge gains.
If you have a well matched Intake, cam, headwork, header and exhaust all tuned in reference to each other, you can definitely see some gains from a Y8 manifold. But on a basically stock motor your not gonna feel a big difference. Not to rag on the Y8 mani, i've got one being prepped right now for my car (plus the head to go along with it)

exactly. no plans except bolt-ons. z6 which will flow better than the stock y7, open up exhaust with header, 2.25/2.5 crush bent pipes with matched cat and flow thru muffler
