i think this belongs here, mods please move if necesary

but anyways

i talked to a guy this weekend that is a "mechanic", and we was talking about sludge built up from using conventional motor oil when all of the sudden he starts talking about cleaning the internals by taking the oil plug off and puring kerosene in the engine and then letting it sit for a little bit, then draining the kerosene and putting oil back in it....:noway:

i looked at him like he was retarded and asked him if he was being serious, and he swore up and down that it was true.....

is it just me, or am i the only one that sees that as a little fucking weird!!!????

it wouldnt damage anything. i use kerosene/gasoline to clean shit all the time just not like that.

but as for it actually losening up the sludge and then being able to get it out idk about that..

no shouldn't hurt they do that a lot on semi's. You can also put a quart of tranny fluid in there to help clean it out. just make sure you don't run it for more than about 5 min.

I've done this several times at one of my old jobs. I'd pour in like a quart or so of kerosene/desiel fuel and run the motor for a couple of minutes. Let it set for a while, then drain it all out. You wouldnt believe what you'll see fall out of the drain hole. Seals dont get messed up either, I just would limit how many times you do this. Once or twice will pretty much get rid of all sludge in the motor.

i have done both methods. trans and diesel. i found that i like auto trans fluid better. it seems to get a better result imho.

i'll add to the list of people doing it with good results
its common practice to soak parts in kero for cleaning purpose
carbs...etc...
but the whole putting a few quarts in the motor i haven't done yet
but know a few people who do and swear by it

I'd feel more comfortable with ATF.
It is what I've heard to use and it's actually a lubricating oil. Kerosene is just a very oily fuel, and is not designed to lubricate bearings and shit.

But this kind of stuff works.

Iv used kerosene before to flush my engine.

Go to autozone and buy a can of Engine Restore and open it up and take a wiff. Smells just like kerosene.

yep.. kerosean is like a more purified oil based fuel. all you need is like help me out on this if anyone knows.. it's like 1gal of kerosean and 3/4 transfluid and you got diesel. if you flush it with the stuff then drain it it will break it up.. ive seen it done before.. but only on certain motors.. never on a 4 cylinder.. but i guess i can be done..

yea dont use engine restorer, it kinda like gums up the sleeves and ruins the block from being able to be rebuilt.

Not questioning your knowledge but do you have personal experience or something to back that up... cuz i've never used that stuff and i was wondering bout it.. and could u elaborate on how it makes it not rebuild able..
