So what about a cam like the Zex camshaft that is very popular wiht the NA crowd. This was my original plan (NA) and that was gonna be the cam that I was gonna get.
But since then the plans have changed to Boost, so should I say good bye to the Zex?

What do ya think ?

THe zex 59300 is most likely too aggressive w/boost. Either stay stock or look at a turbo cam. I believe that a stage 1 cam would also get the job done as they typically aren't as aggressive as the turbo cams.

Well what about if you are running nitrous? I've been lookin at the ZEX 59300 also, and basically I want the most powerful cam I can get, and I prefer top end power over mid-range and torque.

alteredautosports thank you for that useless reply.

I guess the lack of maturity with some of hte people on this board is expected to be next to none.

I guess we just need post like that to prove my point!

what point? they are designed wrong, this is why they are noisey! buy a camfrom both comp, or crane and then reply with analogie like that!

......been there done that! crane is quite and more hp!

Correct me if I am wrong.. but are you not the same guy that was on here a while ago that started a post stirictly to diss Zex cams?

there are numerous dynos that have shown the zex cam to make excellent gains.

Could it be that the cam has a little more noise cause it is simply a more aggressive cam?? It is a NA cam so it has to use some fairly aggressive cam profiles..... and yes you are gonna sacrifice some Ergonomics.

And I am not trying to say that ZEX is the best... I am just pointing out that there is no sense in coming out and trying to say that it is the worst.

aggressive is okay but if ramp speed is calculated wrong you get noise power from the crane cams is greater by far just people don't have the money for a billet cam this is why you see less people useing them, all the fast race cars are useing billets only, becuase they don't wear and break like cast.

The zex cam i think is great for boost, i have one in my d16 and i made awesome power...I think the cam design on the 59300 is better for boost than n/a with th high lift and not as much duration...look at the specs of the zex cam and compare with like the crower turbo cam...the zex actually has more lift an less duration than the crower turbo cam.....I put down 205whp and 160ft.lbs of torque on my d16a/z6 on 6psi with a t3 60 trim....so the cam couldnt have hurt me, I think it works awesome with boost....

altered you commented that you'd be better off going with a comp or crane cam... how could this be possible if the zex cam is a comp cam?! and also, isnt long duration better for turbo?

Hey altered, why don't you stop being all talk and post some numbers. Travsi seems to be doing pretty well with 200+ hp with his setup. FWIW. looking at the specs, the zex cam he is running looks on paper to be a very good choice. His hp/boost also seems to be further support his decision.

EDIT: What do you know. A 400+ whp Turbo d16 with a zex 59300 cam. So yeah, doesen't seem like a bad cam at all for a turbocharged car!

befor posting to diss one cam for another you should probably know what your talking about .zex cams are made by comp cams if you look up the part #s they are exactly the same and if thats not enough look at the specs on lift and duration exact also.

How do you like it? Have you had it dyno'd yet, and did you upgrade your valvetrain and such yet? Thanks,
Matt

I love it! Crower knows what they are doing, you can't go wrong. I had the car dynoed two months ago and I got 238hp at the wheels. I also got the whole valvetrain as well with titanium valves, springs, and retainers. Just check out my web site and you will see all the work that was done.

Good Luck Matt
