do the auto to manual swap first. you notice the power curve change. then do "upgrades" on the engine.
what are your ideas of "upgrade"?
turbo?
supercharger?
built NA motor for DD?
built NA motor for DD & track ready?
tell us. we can help.

your local salvage yards, local caigslist, classifieds in your local paper...
youre a n00b so dont expect anybody on the site to sell to you until youre a bit more well known and able to browse the classifieds section on this site.

swap out the whole engine for a lower mileage one.
Normally I'd say keep it, but piecing together a 5-spd swap gets expensive... trust me, I know it since I just did mine.
It's usually cheaper to buy the whole d16 swap with 5spd trans and shift lincage and what know from someone who just went B or something.
If you want a high number turbo, it doesn't evem matter if it's a high mileage engine, since you'll be replacing most of the internals anyway.

sell the auto and buy a stick. than upgrade
axel_bass

so, sell the motor i have with the auto tranny?
then buy another d series that comes with a 5 speed tranny...
and this would be cheaper???

the cheapest would be to sell the whole car and buy a stick shift.
Second cheapest would be sell the engine/trans, and buy 5spd equivalent.
Most expensive (part for part) would be just the tranny swap by itself.

ah ic.
hmmm. well i may just end up selling it.
even though i have been through alot with it.
haha.
maybe a 02 civic thats NOT black would be better...
hmmm. black is just ridiculous to keep up with.

dont get the 02, i mean the D17 is OK, but theres a TON more support for the D16. The biggest headache when doing the auto-manual is wiring, theres a few really good DIY's here on it. The easiest thing is to buy a complete swap, with trans, ECU, ect. well the easiest is to buy a manual car, but swap wise the complete swap is best

i spend around $600 in my auto to manual swap and i got my tranny for $80 i didnt spend for install because i did it myself so i think buying a whole engine is way cheaper im still having idling problems so that means more $$ everyday lol Good look and welcome!

you might wanna talk to Tory (Agent T) on here about that first. Hes going throw a pain in the ass deal with swapin his over. You might do better to get you a whole new civ if your thinkin about that.

I'd defiantly sell the car and buy a manual. Auto to manual swaps never feel right, my friends mk3 supra turbo has an auto to manual swap with a stage 3 clutch, works fine but theres no pedal pressure, and i've heard that most auto to manual swaps are like that.
you know thats not a d in your avatar right!

i'm don't know you're mechanical aptitude, so i'll just say this: if you're going to be paying for labor, it'll be cheaper to sell and then buy a manual transmission car. however, if you know how to turn a wrench and you look around for deals on the parts you need (salvage yards, craigslist, ebay, etc), you could do it for fairly cheap.

i would personaly sell the car and buy a stick. alot easier then dealin with the wiring for the manuel and all the work to do it

Well you also need to know your budget.. Do you have the money to buy a new honda if you sell your one now?? Also if you dont have them get a good set of tools and start reading alot of DIY threads. This way it will save you alot of money from paying someone else to do the work for you..
