I'm in the process of making a very nice custom rear lower tie bar. (Why not buy one? Cause it's way more fun to make your own products!) Now, what I need to know is, what size bolts will I need to get? I just need to know the diameter and the pitch. I can figure out the length (and obviously it has to be a grade 8.8) The vehicle is a 1998 Honda Civic DX Coupe.

Thanks for any help! It'd be great if someone could respond by tomorrow, because the college I'm going to is right next to an ace hardware!

why not just pull out the lca inner bolt? use it as one of the mounting bolts. then add one more in the hole above the lca bolt, one of your own choosing. iirc, the hole is a 1/4 in size. don't quote me on that though, as i have not been under the rear section of the car for almost a year (busy building the engine).

Well, I'd just like to go into our ace hardware tomorrow and know what all I need. Surely someone on here will know the diameter and pitch.

Unfortunately, no I don't. :( I know there have been a few people that have actually made one.

I just don't see spending 100 bucks for a piece of metal that I can make myself.

Do you know what you are talking about? Grade 8 is a hardened standard thread bolt. 10.9 is a hardened metric bolt...they are as far as I know and have been taught with my 3.5 years of working at a hardware store...

So, he does need 10.9 but not because 8 isnt enough...it simply isnt the right term...if you will

not a bad idea ive been working on some in my spare time.

so far these are my ideas

what ive made so far

as for that bad i found it was much better to just buy the OBX one off ebay it was 40 bucks and has many mounting holes for the swayabr ect. honestly it will be cheaper to go obx then to buy metal, bolts, materials to cut and weld ect. here is the OBX one

ive also moded a front upper bar

but have fun making it do it to what you think will work well, and it is ALOT of fun :D

rep for a fellow fabricator

Can someone explain what 10x80 means? Is the 10 part the diameter and the 80 part the pitch of it? I'm confused. I need to know the diameter of the bolt and the pitch.

I'm more familiar with terms such as M10x1.5 or M12x1.25 or something. 8.8 grade is plenty strong, correct?

**Also does anyone know if the Integra GSR/Type R OEM Front tie bar will fit EK's? Someone has offered me one for a cheap price.

imo, i'd buy one, to me it's just faster and more time saving...and also i woudn't trust my own fabrication work.

if anything i dont trust THEIR fab work hahaha

to the OP ive been lokinf for some kind of a foam thats very firm i want to drill small holes in the bottom of the bar and inject foam in there to make it a little stiffer. haven't really found anything i like too much yet.

10x80 is not the size as far as i know...it will be a 10x?. You really should just pop out the old one and take it in...and grade 8 is not metric...you want grade 10.9...did you even read my other post?

80 is the length.

The LCA bolts are tapered, self-locking M12(shaft size)x1.25(thread pitch) grade 10.9 bolts. Buy new ones from Honda, and anti-seize the crap out of them.

good catch...i forgot they were tapered...it would be a bitch to get them in without that...

10 is dia. of the bolt and 80 is the length.
i forgot that you had asked what the pitch was also. as for what the pitch is i don't have a clue, me i'ld buy both

i put that up so you could reference the stock length of the bolts so you could figure out what length you'ld need from the added thickness of the material that you are going to use for the bracket.

Sorry I somehow missed your post! Before this honda I had 2 different fords, so the whole idea of using metric hasn't totally sunk in lol. Sorry about that!
