... as say the B series?
I know you can boost b16, b18c1 etc.... but I keep hearing its not a good idea to boost a high comp. motor, and if you do, you need alot of tuning for it to run well... on the other hand boosting a lower compression like b18b is better etc...
Does this same rule apply for D?
Say like boost a D16y7 over a y8?

No matter what engine you have, the compression and adding a turbo is always something that needs to be taken into consideration.
If it's an all out race engine then it can be built to do high compression and high boost. They also run super high octane fuel which you won't be finding at the pump.
If you are trying to keep your engine "safe" on pump gas then you should shoot for about 9:1 compression or a bit lower. High compression NA run a higher risk of destructive detonation than low compression engines. B-series guys will normally add a thicker headgasket to lower compression when they add a turbo. This helps them to stay on pump gas and add more boost.

if your worried about boosting a high compression motor, just drop the compression ( different pistons and head gasket )

yeah, and if you're looking for a good engine to boost, you might want to try the d16y8. compression for boost isn't bad, and like thesqad said, you can always lower the compression on it if you're afraid that it will be too high (which it's certainly not for a first turbo kit)

Compression with a stock bottom end and a turbo is good for throttle response and spool up. My DOHC zc is at 9.6:1 compression with 10psi and its response is very snappy...

Stay non vtec you run into valve overlap I swapped my Y8 head for a y7. see times postings thread. I have the same setup as the black coupe at rmr - as big a turbo but that will soon change.
the most important thing is tuning!!! find someone who knows what they are doing and you will be good to go.

VTEC + TURBO + 98Octane (australian OPTIMAX) + Australian tuning houses = Lots of fun to be had!
Take the VTEC out of this equasion, and things start to get a little bland and un-Honda-ish. As long as your tuner knows what they're on about, you possess good management (this doesnt include MicroStench LOL) and you will have no dramas.
Dunno bout America, but Aus has more Balltearing, ripsnorting honda D-Series VTEC stripseakers than you can poke a blunt stick at. Just do it RIGHT!
