got the transmission apart yesterday and i couldnt believe i was able to shift. Im missing half of the balls in the inputshaft bearing(correct me if im wrong on bearing). How did that not destroy my tranny when the fell out? Anyways whats remaining of them is now stuck to the magnet as u can see. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e291/bennyshoestring/DSCF0008.jpg

You still have all of them, it's the cage that is missing.

ur saying im just missing the case part of that bearing and its only suppose to have 8 balls?. I found the pieces of the brown case all over the inside. If you look at the bearing to the left in the middle theres some of the case shavings

now FULLY strip the case and both shafts.

Pieces of the plastic bearing cage will get stuck behind the oil plates and in the shafts. Look to the left of the ISB at the countershaft bearing, you'll see parts of the bearing cage.

5-6 cans of carb clearner, special bearing puller from snap-on and alot of patience. Takes me 2 hours, you.......all day?

Bone, do you have that pic of the piece of dirt that got stuck in the oil valley on the shaft??

That was the one... It's just a good example of how a little debris can fuck everything up. :TU:

I know the feeling, just had a cage come loose on a diff bearing. Won't be using BCA bearings again. Stick with plastic cages.

I hate plastic cages, only use NTN from Honda.

Although the 96-00 PSO ISBs with steel cages are out of stock, Honda is putting 88-95 PL3 ISB's in their place.

The last two SI trannies and the ZC tranny I took apart last week had plastic cages. They appeared to be NTN bearings, but I would have to go back and look to be sure. The bearing pictured on the right is the type that the cage decided to exit the bearing housing. I actually would like to run some sort of sealed bearing like I found in a B series tranny I have laying around.
