Hi ppls.
Thinkin whether or not I should go through with a mini me setup or not.
Current engine setup:
sohc zc(non-vtec of course)
Vitara + Eagle combo
KMS blockguard
ARP headstuds
I have a Z6 head my cousin gave me for FREE. I dont have a dizzy or a cam gear. I know these parts are not hard to get at all.
Should I go thru with doin a Mini Me setup or should I leave it non-vtec? Since I have the head lying around should I modify it before putting it on?

I have the rods and pistons in my engine already..broken-in and everything. Would love to get 300hp outta da car. Since my car is lower compression already, what do you all think my compression would be like with a vtec head?

Need some real oppinions on doing the mini me.well noob, you could have searched for about 1-3 seconds, and got that info for yourself. if you google compression calculator honda, you would get this site:
calculator (http://www.knology.net/~jediklc/dcalc.htm)
^figure it out for yourself, this is d-series.org not spoon-feed-the-noob.org.

vitaras would bring it down to 8.5 roughly and the vtec head will prolly bring it to 9s this is all just a guess though. vtec on a soch isnt worth it.with a turbo on a non-vtec it will be an easier powerband to tune. no reason for the swap at all because with the turbo you'll be making enough power that a vtec head isnt needed.

mod for mod the vtec will over power a non-vtec

VTEC > non-vteconly one way to prove it... ask Stephanie Eggum what she has bolted to the top of her engine, a non-vtec system or a vtec system. or if your talking about sohc motors, well we could always ask bisi what system he is running.

Thanks for the calculator...compression came up to like 9.1 roughly.

VTEC > non-vtec
i can agree with that but when you are shooting for 250 or something it really doesnt matter what head you use both will get their without problems.

Ok guys...final decision. Staying non-vtec for now. I feel the car will make good power without vtec right now. I am just goin to focus on gettin the last bit of stuff to turbo the car.
Will keep you all posted with the progress.

yeah since a 5-10 horsepower difference is so overpowering. as said many times before a bigger cam in a non vtec will just about cover up the loss initially. and ive seen more than a few boosted y7s make more torque and equal horsepower than z6s or y8s at the same boost level in turbo apps. staying stock is the biggest downfall to a sohc nonvtec engine. if my y7 didnt need more work than its worth(needs rebuilt), id boost it to hell and back before tossing in a z6.

I remember when I had my a6 back in the day.... I like my vtec but I also liked having a non vtec because like everyone else stated it is an underdog.:TU:
P.S 99ej6t thanks for the sig material

SOHC VTEC is junk........nothing but a fancy cam profile change on the intake lobe side........more moving parts = more failure points.
the ONLY good thing from a mini-me is the bump in compression........D's love compression........
