Guess it's my turn to say Hi.
I have been hanging out at the various honda forums for a while, but found this one when searching for tranny help. I guess I'll post those Q's in the tranny section, but give a brief overview here.
I have a 91 dx sedan that sat in the garage for a long time. I recently installed a completely rebuilt (by me) ZC in it, along with (I thought) a good Si tranny. From searching other posts, it sounds like the tranny has some bearing issues, I am guessing the input shaft, and I am afraid to drive it too far. I took it to the alignment shop today, as I put all urethane bushings in the front while I had the car apart, and figured a computer could get it straightened out better than me. I only have about 15 miles on the new motor, but I did nothing to the tranny except add GM synchromesh after bolting to engine. Now I am paying for it with a great new motor, and a noisy transmission.
I really want to drive this thing soon, so I guess I'll jump right into it, but I don't want to write a book on my first post.
What I am currently considering is driving this setup for a while (easily, while I break in the motor), and taking my old L3 off the d15b2 (which I still have) and replacing the bearings and fixing whatever else is wrong (maybe the 3rd gear synchro, because I had to double clutch to get it in when it was in the car) - but maybe it is some other things from my readings here, and then simply swapping the two trannies out, rather than have the car off the road again for however long it takes me to fix the Si tranny...:(
OK, so hi! and thanks for any help and suggestions. :D I really don't want this car sitting in the garage for another month....but I don't think I will get many miles out of the Si tranny in its current state...and I don't want it leaving me on the side of the road. Is there really that big a difference between how fast the ZC is with a DX or Si tranny? I plan this car to be a daily driver, but since the d15b2 was dying, I decided to swap in a ZC to have a little fun...I am not going to be taking it to the track every week or anything..
Ok enough rambling by me..flame away at the newbie!
