View Full Version : Type R Intake Manifold on a D16?

I am about to buy an IM from a CTR.

The plan is to cut the flange off and weld my ZC flange.
Has anyone done this modification and what other problems I might encounter? I think the IACV might be different.

I can also get B16A IM for cheaper, but which one would you choose?

Thanks

I personally would just get one that fits then I dont have to do all the extra work.

gonna be a little harder than just cutting one flange off and welding another on - the B-series engine is about 2"+ longer than a D-series engine and the intake ports on the head are spaced farther apart, which means the runners on the B-series manifold will not match the ports on the ZC flange

You mean import a DOHC ZC manifold from exospeed or JGE?
No thanks, if they would have replied to my emails I would have done that a long time ago.

Which one is easier to convert, B16A or B18C5 intake manifold to 1993 ZC?

Why not just port your stock intake manifold?

Why would you buy and modify an IM that doesn't fit, when you could just buy a skunk2? This thread makes no sense.

Also I would like to add, intake manifolds barely even help, what like a whole 2~3 hp, its not worth the work, just buy a blox and call it a day.

What jli said....the runners will not line up to the ZC flange so there will be a lot more work in modifying it to fit.

Skunk2 doesn't make an intake manifold for the DOHC ZC, which is what he has - however, we could sell him an adapter to maybe put the SOHC Skunk2 on the DOHC ZC

Shit my bad, I thought they did. Does Blox?

Shit my bad, I thought they did. Does Blox?no - i think JG Engine Dynamics makes one and may be the only ones

Also, the Type R manifold is made to perform in a whole different power band than the ZC does.
It's just not a good idea in ANY aspect...!

save urself a headache and buy one the CTR dnt do shit still its just a manifold idk why ppl's obsession with the type r its still honda!!!

the stock DOHC ZC intake manifold works very well and better than anything else you can put on it - unless you have some serious mods to the engine like bigger camshafts, messing with the stock intake manifold and throttle body will just slow it down

Point taken. On an already forced motor, a larger IM will not make a big difference. But what about the 62mm Throttle body on the typeR?

You see I have a spare intake manifold, and i would like to fit a bigger TB.
Will that make more sense? Cut off the flange on the spare ZC intake and replace it with a B-series flange to fit the 62mm TB????????

why not just port ur stock manifold and throw a bigger tb on it? its not worth makin a mani out of a b manifold. might as well just take ur zc out of there then if u want to go and do all that!

lol, I love my ZC. Soon it will be beating up on 2005 TypeR's.

I like this idea. I will port the spare head and IM i have first and fit a bigger throttle body to it.

thanks

Depends on where you cut. Right where the runners start to separate is a good place. This makes use of the bigger plenum and I can port match to get the best joining.

Well then do it dude. Let us know how it works out for you. I guarantee you'll be the first.

Why waste all that time, and possibly ruin your power anyway? Just do something that you know already works.

u might loose power and its def not worth the time/effort

Just get dual carbs and call it a day.... Much easier and more power than all of the work you are trying to do...
