using/leaking oil

I'm loosing about 1/2 a qrt every 1k miles or so...

My car does smoke but only high rpms and its black smoke which leaves soot on my rear bumper!

I have a few leaks one is the rear main the other is under the timing covers

I have a 97 ex coupe

Mods:
99-00 exhaust mani
ITR catback
Stock airbox w/ resonator removed

So I'm planning to remove timing covers to see what is leaking and repair as needed

Also doing a compression and leak down test!

Anything else I should check while I'm doing these tests to help pinpoint the problem?

it might be blow by but the leak down and compression test will give you more insight. Otherwise valve guides.....

If you have a few leaks, I would fix em, and do a leakdown test. As for the black shit on your bumper, thats usually from running rich. after fixing the leaks, see if you are still losing a bunch of oil.

Fixed a lot of it!

rear main was leaking really wish my new tranny was done but i reistalled the old s40 junk tranny...

Also have a small leak from t-belt side but cant find it... it's not the crank or cam seal but it's coming from down low like oil pump area... any ideas?

Have yet to do the leak down...

Ok today finally got around to working on my car!

Compression test not so good...

cyl 1-4: 160 185 180 165

Then ran leak down on 1 and 4 both sounded like air was coming out the exhaust! So I think I'm gonna be freshening up my extra cyl head and installing it...

that compression isnt terribble, but its not great. it sounds like the vavle seals are bad to me

Yeah I think I'm going to put a cyl head on it..

The engine has like 80k on it but it sat for a while
