If you dont mind id like to know what youve done to your z6, and how high you can can get it to rev and does vtec hit loud? Please help i greatly appreciate it!

The biggest point to address is going to be your valve train. i.e. eliminating valve float

rice alert.
Upgrade your valvetrain, springs and retainers, to prvent valvefloat. Stock cam will not make power up there, you'll have to go aftermarket. Then just change the rev limiter in the ECU.

how about durability of stock oem piston n rods on < 8k rev ?

theyre fine, use ARP rod bolts and u will be fine

and to use the ARP you have to tear the engine down.
Now power up there.
You need about $1000 in upgrades to spin to 8000+ rpm and have it live while making some power.

yup..... at least that much... I have a few of Bisi's stuff and motor makes power to almost 9k.. But he did ask me for some money first.

I think all us nOObs have been asking wrong question. All the info is here on how to build the powerful na Z6. The shocker is the cost of that power. I have only begun and with just the I/H/E and MSD full ignition sys. I am into this build over $1,500. I traded for the spare z6 to build so I could still drive while building, looks like I have several thousands more to spend on building that. Course I plan on buying the best I can to get the most out of this build. Then there's the tuning, be it hondata or crome, or ..., the dyno expense, supension to handle all that power : ) and brakes, and clutch, and on, and on ... $$/hp right now is about $150/hp - so how bad do ya want it?
Sorry to butt in but I just don't know how you d-soldiers have managed for so long with the same question (myself included), over, and over, and over...my hats off to all of you for your patience and your perseverance! Great bunch of guys on this site.

Myself, IHE upgrades are a given, basic pieces should be standard on all parts list, not included in the $$$$ spent.
That being said, my D15B7 wins hands down for most power gained on least amount of money.
Z6 intake = $20
A6 cam = freebie
P28 ECU = traded parts, $80 value
add in intake/header/exhasut
Not bad for a 33 whp gain right?

Not bad at ALL!

I mentioned ARP rod bolts assuming you are talking about after the z6 is built and makes power past stock redline. OBviously I wouldnt suggest putting arp's on a stock z6 and changing revlimit to 8200, as you would have a nice surprise from our valvetrain friends at 7700

You can build a nice setup with less than 1000
What I have spent so far:
1. Nippon p29 pistons: 150 (with rings) on ebay
2. d16z6 vtec cylinder head with 6 bolt aftermarket camgear: $100 (locally)
3. 4-2-1 header: $75 ebay
4. obd0 5spd pw0 ecu: $130 ebay
5. B&M fpr and gauge combo :$50 ebay
6. head gasket, Im gasket, header gasket, OEM oil pan gasket, rod bearings: $80 - $100
7. d16z6 intake manifold: $50
8. b18b1 throttle body: $30
Machine shop
pistons to rod instalation: $15
$700 - $800 with the cleaning products, oil, coolant etc
I already had a 2" exhaust, intake, act clutch/ pressure plate
All the labor was done by me and the car runs very strong.... I will tune soon to get the best out of it......
you dont really have to buy all the expensive parts to get a decent n/a car......

Changing compression ratio alone isn't enough to net a substantial power gain, you REALLY need to change the cam to take advantage of the higher compression ratio.
Classic engine theory typically claims a 3% power increase for a full 1 point increase in compression with no other modifications. Of course, this is subject to diminishing returns - another 1 full point will not yield the same power increase as the first point.
I've yet to see back to back dynos of a Z6 where the only mod was dropping in P29's, but I imagine the piston change alone probably nets 6-8 whp tops.

Is every body connected here or what? Everyone's "thrifty" setups are of great help and shows what can be achieved with minimal $$ spent. I stand corrected and am eatin my words : )!
I hope to milk every ounce of hp I can get from my z6. Every $ I can shave on the build can be spent on suspension, brakes, clutch, etc. : )

Im looking at building a Z6 too and was wondering what I could do with a thousand bucks. I was just gonna get a clutch, lightweight flywheel, intake manifold and I/H/E. Also a little suspension work. I dont care about bein real fast just lookin for a little more power, such as runnin with a stock B series.
