I have a 90 CRX with a d16z6 and a Greddy turbo kit. I keep going through trannys (I like to race lol). Everybody keeps telling me to run the SI tranny. I found that the DX tranny is better for my setup. The longer gears keeps me in my powerband longer. Well I finally broke my DX tranny. I've tried a couple SI trannys, but I loved my DX tranny. My car was a lot faster. I know with all motor applications that an SI tranny would be the best, and with my turbo application the longer gear ratio seemed to be best. So has anybody tried a HF tranny in a turbo application??? I just bought an HF tranny for fun to see how it does. I'll be pulling my motor in a couple months to put my built bottom end back in. I can always go back to another DX tranny at that time. I'm just a little concerned about the LONG gear ratio. I'm also concerned about the strength of the tranny. So if anyone has done this their input would greatly be appreciated. :?:

well the HF tranny has really long gears so long there too long...seriously you will be doing over 100mph in 2nd gear...so the car will be good in drop races...thats about it.

I've done a little more research on the HF tranny. I agree they're too long. I think I'm going to stick with a DX tranny. Why quit a good thing.

Get a Y8 or Z6 tranny.... anything else for d-series motors suck ass.
Transzex would be the man to ask.

Shorter gears will make you accelerate faster... period. They will also keep you in your powerband longer. On our honda motors, all the power is at high rpms, so you want to stay up there as much as possible.
I agree with BBKA. I would go with the y8 tranny.

2 boobs not reading..........nice pair!!!!!!!!
The original poster has a 90 CRX, a Z6 or Y8 tranny is not gonna fit, PERIOD!!!!!!!
The classic DX vs. Si tranny on a turbo motor.........
Si tranny will be faster, simple, but only simple if you can PLANT the power!!!
A Si tranny in 3-4-5 is murder, hauls ass.
A DX tranny will help you get the power down in 2nd, which is why it feels faster.
Do like I do, run stickys, traction + acceleration.
