I've been playing with the dizzy to adjust the timing on my engine and I just wanna make 100% sure that I'm in the safe with where I positioned it. The pics I took aren't the best and I find they don't really represent the positioning the way I see it but could you tell me if that's safe or not? Cause after a while, let's say 10 minutes or so, I start to hear a funny metallic clutter in my engine. It's not really a ping, it's more like a glass chime clinging together.

Anyways, just check out the pics and tell me if I'm good, or even if I could improve on it or not.

* I couldn't really get the shot right but it's more towards advanced than retarded but it's not all the way as u can clearly see *

you need a timing light and set your ignition advance to stock, search theres plenty of writeups how to do this

that ping you hear is your engine detonating after it warms up and starts to suck in hot air, you're ruining your bearings, don't drive it like that

it said soothe my paranoia, not freak him out

Detonation is no fun at all. If you can't get it fixed immediately and you absolutely HAVE to drive, run the highest octane you have available. My old VW 8v used to detonate at track days if i didnt have at least 100 octane in it. I finally bought an adjustable cam gear and saved myself some mad money haha.

Are you serious? How the fuck could it be detonating my positioning is barely off stock settings... I run 91 octane and Mobil 1 synthetic, why would my engine already be finished? Although I realized that my engine doesn't make the sound I was describing every time and it's probably not quite how I described it. Are you absolutely sure it's detonation?
