ok, everytime i run the my car a little hard i get a burned oil smell. its not the normal burnt oil smell. it smells like oil burning off exhaust. but i don't have any white/blue smoke from the exhaust and i am not loosing any oil or leaking any oil. i only get the smell after i take the car above around 4k. i thought it may have been rings, but my compression is 210 across the board, except #4 which was 215. not bad for 173K. i am thinkin its the valve stem seals. any other ideas?
i plan on doing a rebuild when i do my mini-me swap so its not really a big deal just wanted to know what it was.

I dunno, mine smells funny when I go into VTEC for the first time each day... Not like oil, though.

What kind of oil filter do you use? Reason I asked, is cuz I believe I had the same "problem" in my 'ol Escort. Every time I stood on it, rough city driving, it smelled oddly. I change up from the regular $3 Fram, to their X2 $9/$10 filter once and that helps ALOT! I actually got an X2 (or whatever they call it now) for the Civic's next oil change; so I hope that'll help with what minor burnt oil smell I get!

my guess is that your head needs to be rebuilt. probably worn valve guides as well as stem seals

You said it before i did. Valve guide seals most likely.

Genuine Honda filter? Then you're good... like the others then it's a good chance to be the stem seals.

yeah its genuine honda, thats the only filter i go with. i have heard of fram filters exploding, dont wanna take that chance since i drive hard.

As for oil filters, I have been using WIX for the past year... I got turned on to them by a friend and I like them . But I change my oil after every event anyway.

thought about getting a wix, just no place i know of around here sells them, so i just pick up a oem one every 15k
edit: i change the oil every 7.5k tho

ok so i think i got a bent valve. the car kinda studders when i first start it up, and like i said above i get a burned oil smell above 4k if i run it hard.
i plan on swapping the head in the next 3 months. doing a mini-me.
will i screw up my pistons running with a bent valve?? i don't think it is hitting the piston because i dont get any nosie like that once the car gets running and stops stumbling. so if the valve is not hitting the piston will i screw anything beside the valve guides??

As long as the valve doesn't break, should stay out of the way of piston. But the longer you run it that way, the more chance the valve could break and drop into the cylinder.

well if it breaks off i will def know it, will prob make a really bad noise, haven't had that happen yet. my new head will be going on in approx 3-4 months. if it breaks before then and screws my pistons up i will get high compression pistons and convert to obd1, be sooner then i wanted but be closer to my final build on this engine
