SMSP has a dyno sheet on a d16y7 that shows a gain of nearly 16WHP over stock manifold! Does the Y7 have a crappy manifold or are SMSP just kick ass headers?

Both ;-) Y7 is crappy and SMSP is kick ass

According to the graphs, that is an increase of nearly 21% WHP! Thats amazing!

its because there is a catalytic converter on the y7 mani, no cat with the SMSP header....

I have a SMSP header on my Y7 and I am more than happy with it. Excellent gains over the Ractive header I had before and more torque too!!!

16 whp is probably peak. AKMEE Type-S cam shows 20 whp gain over stock valvetrain @ ~7700 rpm too.

His was 16 whp without tuning... if you had tuned the stock setup the same way, the gains would have been smaller. Still a nice cam though! :TU:

who the heck is going to waste time tuning stock cam?! bone has the dyno graph showing +2/-2... shift the curve around. that's all.

I've seen 6-7 whp peak gains from tuning stock cams... I suppose that was a huge waste then. Factory tunes are extremely conservative, it's not a fair comparison to compare a conservative tune with an aggressive one.
are expensive d-series NA headers worth the money
or just go boost?

If you're talking just D-Series, I see your point BUT stock maps are conservative as a mofo. Honda needed to work WOT A/F's with the possibility of AC being on, 3 other passengers, etc etc...
If you're talking in general, tell that to K-Series guys and they'll slap you.

Frank, what does your dyno graph have to do with SMSP header?
Also my graph was +/- 1/2 tooth change, thats 4.75 degrees per half, total of 9.5 degree change in cam timing between the two pulls.
You graph only shows +8whp/2wtq, comparing your numbers outside the useable powerband is pointless. Notice both cam fell off after 6800-7000 rpm.
The stock cam was a combo of being limited by the cam AND intake, your cam is still being limited by the intake. If you wanted to brag about your cam, mention the USEABLE lowend grunt increase......because from 4600 to 6200 your cam did nothing.
Keep pushing your wares and your gonna have to start paying for the privledge, you were warn on the other board, might wanna think about it.

Thats like when I was at Hotshot and some magazine wanted to do a header shootout with a bunch of different companies for the SR20 Nissan motor. Our header made more hp than everyone else did in 5 of 6 categories. AEBS won besause they made more hp from idle to 2500rpm... Hello???? Thats NOT usable unless you want to make more hp while just sitting at a red light. Long story short...... The magazine was in AEBS's pocket. Peak gains might be good to look at. But "Usable" gains are where its at.

I have to admit I was really unsure about using my AEM cam gear after stopping my build at the head.... with the stock cam and a new house I thought the cam gear was useless.... then my tuner told me to definitely install it. I did and man was I surprised it really helped and I honestly gained 3 whp and a couple of ft/lbs. of torque with the adjustments to the stock cam.
As for the comment about buying high end parts for a N/A D-series versus a turbo build.... turbo will definitely be the bang for your buck and power however if you are a N/A enthusiast its all worth it... I only wish I'll be able to continue my build with the head upgrades someday or a Y8 head filled with plenty of goodies.... :thehump:
