I did a motor swap to a b18c and boosted it.. and sadly it blew.

I put my d-series back in and I am interested in boosting it but my stock transmission is crapping itself and rattling / grinding when it goes into 3rd.

What transmission should I buy / where would i find one ? I want an upgrade from the transmission i have now possible LSD ?

You can get a JDM d15b trans with lsd from hmotorsonline.com it costs around $400. If you dont need an oem lsd then just find a Si or EX transmission from a 92-00 civic (ex or si) and use it and buy and aftermarket diff.

IMO, I say get the Z6 or Y8 transmission and if your really wanting an LSD, get the one from OBX. I'm sure you can find one on here after you get enough posts for the FS threads.

I just dont think the quality is there with anything OBX makes....take their IM for example they are made out of the same thing as a damn coke can, YES they are that thin!

Hahaha. Yeah, you have a good point there. Honestly, I think its kinda pick and choose with OBX, both their exhaust and intake manifolds are the suck, but I haven't heard of too many problems with their LSD's. tranzex seems to like them.

ITs just my opinion to each his own, I would just rather spend a little more money ONE time then less money on the same part over and over again, plus when you buy quality you get NO WORRIES

I couldn't find the link for the transmission on H Motors, but they are definitly a great place to buy from. I got my D15B longblock from them and it was almost mint.

oh i know.. i will eventually.. but if i buy the tranny from Hmotorsports i don't need the quaife right away right? like i can buy the tranny slap it on and run it.. and when i have the money then buy it ?... what is the quaife anyways.. what does it do / is it needed?

hondajosh

Quaife is the brand of the LSD unit....its for racing applications more so than daily commuting, the OEM LSD will be fine for everyday driving wether spirited or going to Walmart. Start with the oem unit you can always upgrade later and with OEM you still get quality

JDM D15B LSD from HMOTORSONLINE.COM

THE END

its seems to be pretty sketchy to buy oem lsd trannies as they like to break if you play rough with them. just get an ex/si trans and install the quaife or at the very least obx when you get the cash. based on lots of reading others feedback oem lsd in this case is not what you will be looking for... oh and another thing, hmotors does not like to sell the trannies separate all the time it seems. i called and he got pretty grumpy when i asked, so be aware that you might not be able to purchase just the tranny from them.

hmmm do you have any idea as to where else i could get a tranny? ex or si... do you hapeen to know the title of that tranny?

depending on where you live you could check junkyards, classifieds, or surf the net. there is a circular stamp by the fill plug in the casing that has B000 in it. if it has A000 its just another dx/lx tranny. the s20 label is a 92-95 tranny and s40 is a 96-00 tranny. also most places that sell transmissions are clueless about the stamps and differences between the transmissions so i you can view it in person before purchase that would be best; otherwise you might get another dx tranny pawned off on you for more than its worth. id like to help more on your search, but where i live, it took two months to find the tranny i wanted.

i see... its all good. i think i just sank myself in a good deal anyways. a guy i know here in Ottawa, Canada owns an import shop. they import engines from japan and he said he can swap a b18B with a gsr tranny (i think he said gsr tranny) for 2000$'s driving away tunned!... although it will no longer be a d-series engine for that price... i think thats good. I have to find my own computer though.. which will be another stupidly long search lol

hatchnthoughts
05-29-2007, 01:30 PM
not a bad price if its in good condition. the gsr tranny should help on the acceleration end of things, a b16 tranny would be a bit better still though. 2g's installed and all would leave you with some cash to boost it perhaps... those ls engines are good for boosting :)

How much money do you want to spend? Thats always the real question.

If you have $1000 get Transzex to rebuild an EX trans with an OBX LSD.

If you have $100 try and find a low mileage DX and be happy when it works.

i know. i had a b18c boosted.. but i blew it up as previously stated. lol

the b18b is in great shape and i am going to put in my transmission from the 1b18c i blew up.

it will leave me with alot of extra cash and i think i will boost. but i guess i am no longer welcome in d-series.org lol :P

i need help with the turbo for a b18 though i don't know what i should do. i had so many problems with the turbo on the type r engine.. (my brother did it all *fool*) lol

$700 + a good donor EX tranny is the normal price for OBX install.

wait a second... you already have the tranny for the swap? 2 grand is waaaayyyy to much for a b18, especially if you could install it yourself. i think hmotorsonline sells those longblocks for 750, 900ish shipped. you should already have all the other swap parts you need, like axles, linkage, mounts, off the previous engine i'd think. save yourself some more cash and find a friend or something to help you swap even. you should be able to get it done for no more than 1200-1500 after you get all the fluids and tuneup stuff.

hey, no i do'nt have anything except hte transmission.. i sold everything else i just have the gsr tranny. the place that i bought the b18 from sold me the b18b and transmission as a package so ill just sell the b18b tranny.

they are also tunning it for me and chipping/programing my ecu for 2200.
