so i was about to pick up a z6 swap in preparation for turbo (i have a z1 in right now), but my parents think i am totally incapable of anything.. I'm thinking about bypassing it by saying im just getting a headswap (they probably have no idea what that is too)
anyways, i have been looking at my options for a while, and they don't look so hot. with the z6 head, my compression with the 2 layer gasket is hovering around 8:1, with the y8 head, it is around 8.2:1. Obviously, that's pretty low compression for a DD.
I'm concerned about driveability with this compression and how it would affect gas mileage. insight?

its going to feel shitier. your mileage will suck too.
look into pistons and get the 3 layer not 2 layer head gasket.
you can also shave the head.

yea, i realize that the p07 pistons with their huge dish is the reason for all of this, but swapping the pistons would mean tearing the whole block down, i don't know if i could afford the downtime. a headswap would take a day, at most two if something goes wrong

i'm contemplating switching out my pistons and rods for some other oem combo, i see that i really have no good options
i could
a) switch both rods/pistons for shorter d15b7 rods and its piston
b) take out my rods/pistons press the piston out and get some PMS pistons and slap them on
c) get the crank/rods/pistons from a jdm d15b vtec
any other pistons would have me sticking out of the hole, and d16 rod journals are too big for my crank, am i right?
it seems that options b and c aren't worth my time, effort or money, though it would all be easier if my parents would just trust me with an entire motor swap

D16Z6 swap would probaboy be less money than rebuilding the bottom end, but get compression check b/c probably high milage.
Unless you want more than 10 psi boost stock internals should be satisfactory.
