The following is a comparison between a lightly modified D16z6 and a b18A that dynoed at a local shop that I frequent. Guess which is which??

I guess the purple is D16?

The green one is the d16z6!

Plus this is a kinda conservative dyno.....

What kind of lightly modded z6 makes 120+ whp??
What does the d16z6 have?
Is it a stock b18a?

Mine did, what is so hard about it?

I/H/E = 120 whp dynojet

What was the cranking psi on your engine?
This z6 is well over 120whp. Closer to 130. Just curious to what it had.

beyond-redline. Was this on a dyno jet?

The dyno was a newer kind that isn't the most common, made by Dynocom.
It tends to read lower than a dynojet, and even a bit lower than the superflow that is also near the area. At this time its only an inertia dyno, eddy current to come later. I don't own it, or run it. I'm just friends with the owner of the shop.

This engine is rebuilt mostly stock, generic intake, .040 over, good valve job(no porting), slightly shaved head, Dynatech header, and Comp cams cam, stage 1 i believe.

Needless to say I was really impressed.

That is not typical. I'm not saying I doubt you, I just don't think 120whp is common with just I/H/E.

D16Z6 105-108 whp stock, CAI gives you 8-10 whp, header 2-3 whp, exhaust another 2-3 whp.

thats 117-124 whp, not hard o believe.

D15B7 118 whp = 15.08
D16Z6 120-121 whp = 15.02 on exact same parts

Dang a cai is worth 8-10whp? When used with other bolt ons i guessing.

Cold Air Intake, not a short ram that puts a filter where the stock airbox is. Those should only be good for 2-3whp, depending on what you get. Just throwing that out there.

ok course I did back to back testing........

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m307/bonespec/Honda/RR/DynoIntake.jpg

it was worth .3 seconds in the 1/4 mile and about 1 full second in autox.

I hope you told the guy with the b16 to put some more fuel in it :D

interesting, the b18 clearly makes more torque and a bit more power throughout... the d revs higher... gearing is an issue here and remember the d engine is lighter!

Didn't he just say that _green_ is D16 that makes more power and torque, with a lot smoother curves. What's weird is that suddenly "dies" after 6k, I would expect it to pull atleast into same revs than B18.. maybe the driver lifted too early? BTW what was done to B18, or was it stock?

AFR curve of D16 is funny also, what's happening at around 2700? Strangely B18 also has torque dip in same revs, something to do with intake manifold lenght or something? D16 seems to be leaning all the way with higher revs with already a bit lean mixture (I've ~13:1 from max tq to max pwr rpms), wonder what it would make with slightly richer and even AFR.

B18 was mostly stock with crappy generic intake, DC header, and garbage muffler shop exhaust. As far as the rpm range, I think he backed out towards the end of the run. The car isn't finished being tuned, If I can I will see if I can get the final dyno run.

o the green is the d16, thats weird

i apologize, i misread...

he should rev that thing higher!

Finished up around 135whp. Didn't make any big changes, just finished running it out to 7200. Peak HP was found there.

Imagine what a 59300 would do? The engine currently has the 59100. :TU:

I'd imagine that's what that motor should make. I tuned a friend's Z6 with similar mods - 59100, cheapo 4-2-1 header, short ram, 10:1 compression, stock exhaust. It made 125 whp. With his AEM CAI and new RSR exhaust, I imagine he is close to 135 whp.
