i dont know if its a tranny problem but when im in first, when i accelerate a loud clicking starts until about 3k then goes away. it sounds like when you need new axles and you turn it makes the clicking sound. and when i downshift, before it catches it whines then goes away. any ideas what it could be?? im not grinding any gears and i ahve a brand new clutch and flywheel if that matters.

I'd definitely start by getting new half shafts...

did you put in a new throwout bearing ??? maybe this is a problme with the brakes or wheel bearings ???

why would it be a brake problem?? it only clicks when i accelerate then goes away aftre about 3k.

well i had a problem with the dust shield one time rubbing on the rotor a bit at low speed, made a clicking noise , also the hardware (clips) in your calipers could be missing or loose. maybe you got a rock in your tire LOL it could be alot of things really

lol, i guess you could say it sounds more like somethings spinning/clicking, like somethings getting tighter and tighter.

i have a similiar problem and i got my mechanic to look into it and his conclusion was that it was shift fork chatter and was harmless.

as bone would say: input shaft bearing

If it is shift fork chatter (:hammer:) then it is not harmless. What I believe he is refering to is the shift fork riding on a gear. NOT good.
The whine is OK. It's just the ISB or CSB spooling up. All 4 of my Honda trannies did it. One was in a brand new 2004 Accord. :TU:
AFA the clicking, are both axles ALL the way in?? Ball joints OK?? Rock in the rotors?? Anything in the clutch area could have come loose??
Might be an ISB...

ill check up on all these. but what about this sound, it happens probably 75% of the time, when im taking off slow in first, its quiet until about 2.2k then it gets way loud like vtec just engaged(i know its not vtec but its just an example). it sounds like i just opened up. but then it quiets back down when the rms are steady above 2.5-3k.

hmm my car does a similar thing with a bit different noise, but same rpm situation. im running it as is till it breaks as i have a swap already. but i am damn curious what it could be. i was thinking isb as well. does yours get much louder when you romp on it too? like reguardless of the rpms you are cruising at, when you step on it it gets louder?

yeah, when i get on it, it sounds like i have a fully built head. its funny because it only started when i had my valves adjusted. maybe i just need to readust them.

might be the exhaust manifold heatshield. my car was making a similar noise to what you describe. only did it a certain rpm's and at low speeds. took it in and had the valve lash adjusted. still did it. took it back in. turned out it was the lower heatshield rattling around. put 2 c clamps on it and it went away.
