Newbie trans question.....So spray carb cleaner & wipe clean. How about after cleaning while awaiting reassembly? Just oil everything up something?
What would you use if you weren't reassembling for 6 months or a year?

Thanks, Newbie

I'd say WD-40 and re-apply every month. I've had WD-40 sprayed into my bare block about every month, and not a problem to report...

PB Blaster works better that WD40.

Rem-oil is also a good choice

Thanks, I just bought two EX trannies for an auto to manual swap that probably won't happen until next year. One trans had "grinds" so I may take it apart to see how bad it is. Of course, with the $$$, some CC synchros and OBX LSD might find their way inside with transex's help!

Thanks again

don't have the fluid, bought the tranny used for a auto to manual swap. gonna rebuild it anyway so the fluid color shouldn't be a problem when i finally put it on the car. but thanks for the heads up, i will check the parks for metal fragments as i disassemble them.

So what would cause that or why would the tranny fluid look like that? Does it indicate any problems or does it get like that when it sits unused for a while? Just wondering if my two should look like that or not.

i got some PB blaster, will get some carb cleaner to cleanup the rest of the tranny. i pulled it apart once already to clean it up some, but put it back together (didn't spray anything on it). i will pull it apart again tonight and clean it up and get it prepped for the rebuild, i will spray some PB on it then

quick question i was told by a friend the brake cleaner is good too for degreaser, but i remember reading some where that it eats the rubber of anything.

yeah it can eat rubber away. electrical parts cleaner works well to for degreasing but it is kinda expensive, but leaves no residue. im gonna go with the cheap carb cleaner transzex recommended

Acetone is just fine to clean parts in.
It evaporates fast and leaves no residue.

reason why i asked, wasn't sure if they may have been something special on the internals that the acetone may have taken off.
